(Jewish Group) Coming up on the "Jew Tube".

OK, one is coming to the big screen, but I couldn't resist the pun. Coming in March to HBO, The Plot Against America (miniseries) based on the novel of the same name by Philip Roth. A quick synopsis is it is "autobiographical" imagining of an alternative history in which Franklin D. Roosevelt was defeated in the U.S. presidential election of 1940 by Charles Lindbergh, who has made "peace" with Hitler.

I am currently a third the way through the book, and I find it interesting. It is also a bit disconcerting how many of the points in the book are parallel to what is currently happening here. There is also an awesome term, "koshering", this is a Jew making something, usually anti-Semitism, palatable, not for Jews, but for gentiles. On a side note, "koshering" is apparently in the DU spellcheck dictionary. Who nu?

Dennis Donovan posted this in GD if you'd like to take a look at the conversations there or add to it.

Also coming up, this weekend (my 18th anniversary of meeting my now husband), is Viral: Antisemitism in Four Mutations and it is being released in AMC Theaters. My husband said, given it is a documentary, it will likely coming to streaming services quickly, they release things like this in the theatre in order to qualify for awards. Here is an article about it....

New documentary featuring Bill Clinton examines anti-Semitism in US and Europe

A new documentary featuring experts on anti-Semitism, as well as former President Bill Clinton, examines anti-Semitism in the United States and several countries in Europe.

“Viral: Antisemitism in Four Mutations,” which is set to be released this month, focuses on the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and the anti-Semitism scandal in his British political party, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s campaign against Jewish liberal financier George Soros and anti-Semitic attacks in France.

Director Andrew Goldberg told Newsweek that he believes anti-Semitism is on the rise because of a polarized political environment that’s amplified by social media.

“I see today’s society becoming more fractured and angrier,” he said. “The eruption of anger is at an all-time high. I don’t think we’d be at the level of anti-Semitism now without Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. All these communities give people a sense of alignment with one another.”

The documentary features Brad Orsini, Pittsburgh’s Jewish community security director, who conducted a training for the Tree of Life*Or L’Simcha congregation before the shooting took place in October 2018. Along with Clinton, it features Holocaust historian Deborah Lipstadt, conservative columnist George Will and other experts.

But this seemed to be a good place to put this, as I didn't want to create a new thread.

I read political sites extensively, including conservative sites like the National Review (which sadly has gone down hill drastically with the death of William Buckley, but I still respect, even if I do not agree) and even troll sites like Freeprepublic -- but then mainly to make myself mad enough to go work out. Yesterday, there was a fascinating thread about how a poster was dealing with antisemitism. He or she was presented with a very relatable problem, and it was fascinating to see how that completely opposite group to my peers reacts to a common problem:

Note bene: as should be expected, there are a handful of hateful trolls in the middle of the discussion.
