... I still consider Homo Sapiens champion as "the world's most deadly animal"...despite what Bill Gates thinks.

Sure, mosquitoes annually kill one and a half times the number humans that humans kill (725,000 compared to 425,000), but we wreak immeasurable carnage on so many other species as well. Side-effects of our daily lives drive other species to extinction.

... they're just the hosts for plasmodia, microfilaria, dengue, west nile and yellow fever viruses, and other parasites. Mosquitoes happen to be good at transmitting diseases, so they are a good ride for many microorganisms.

There are probably a small number human deaths a year from allergic reactions to mosquito bites.
