Absolutely. You can tell that the piece was written by a non-scientist. I'm so used to reading.. BlueJazz Mar 2015 #2

The first paragraph of the piece is bullshit.

A team of biochemical researchers in the US has figured out how to give a human volunteer night vision, allowing him to see across a distance of over 50 metres in total darkness for several hours.

And distance has nothing to do with night vision at all, otherwise M31 would be completely invisible to the naked eye since it's 2.5 million light years away. Get in a really dark location on a clear Moonless night and M31 is readily apparent to the normal dark adapted eye.

Interesting phenomenon but horribly written article.

...that type of "reporting" I tend to ignore all the errors. My bad. One would have to have infrared capable eyes to see in total darkness.
I was thinking if it brought 7th or 8th magnitude stars into view, it might be quite interesting.

The 50 metres thing reminds me when people ask "How far can your telescope see" ?
Again, I'm so used to errors (regarding science) in the popular press, I throw them out like trash.
