How to see the legendary green flash

To see a green flash, you must be looking just at sunset, at the last moment before the sun disappears below the horizon. A sea horizon is best.

Amazing! I thought it was a myth. I had a friend once who said she'd seen it, too, and she believed it was a signal of personal enlightenment - that those who couldn't see it had bad karma of some sort that prevented them from seeing it.

I saw it for the first time this winter as the sun set over a distant mountain range in southern Arizona. I was descending a peak east of Tucson and saw the green light for just about a half second.
