A proposal in a paper

Academic papers can be boring to read, even for other scientists. But Caleb Brown of Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology made a paper about the discovery of a new dinosaur a truly exciting read for his girlfriend by proposing to her at the very end of it.

Hidden in the acknowledgements section, it says, “C.M.B. would specifically like to highlight the ongoing and unwavering support of Lorna O’Brien. Lorna, will you marry me?”

O’Brien, of course, said “yes.”

The editors of the journal which published the article told Retraction Watch, “Current Biology is aware of the proposal and we are wishing the very best for the couple.”

The study announced the discovery of a new dinosaur, nicknamed Hellboy. The many-horned dinosaur adds to the tiny list of horned dinosaurs that include Triceratops of the Jurassic Park fame. It is a double win for Brown: a new dinosaur discovery, and a fiancée.
