Puts me in mind of the great stone face controversy ... the natural Mars feature that resembled a head. The image here does look like a 'sore' or 'wound' and is kind of yucky looking when viewed with that imagery in mind.

On the other hand, the tools of science ended the stone face debate, and have indicated the mystery of this feature, and projected a hypothesis on what the feature is.
