and it's amazing how many people out there conflate self defined and proud uvvit evangelicals with rank and file Christians who go to mainstream churches.

I keep telling the mainstream guys they've dropped the ball repeatedly over the religious right ranters who have strayed so far away from what Jesus said as to make the whole thing unrecognizable out of misplaced Christian solidarity with them.

That thread would rather prove my point.

but with the atheist-bashing in GD after Pres. Obama's inauguration wherein someone seriously suggested that most of the people complaining about all the religious pandering were probably paid, right-wing trolls, I'm really, really not.

That is just a convenient way for the religious people to dismiss any discussion with atheists. And it does nothing to help with an open dialog.
