Hello fellow atheists :P (Original Post) Locut0s Jul 2013 OP
I find most people respect the "safe harbor" aspect of the forum so it usually doesn't get heated. Arugula Latte Jul 2013 #1

There are a lot of seriously funny people here, too.

but it can be slow.

Conflict seems to breed discussion better than agreeing all the time

I follow it but for the most part it is an occasional article posted that is interesting and back to the Religion forum where all the real discussion seems to happen.

Except for a very rare occasion, this group is more informative than anything, and it is also a place where you can come when you feel alone against the world. Many of us know few (if any) other atheists IRL, so it is reassuring to know that there are others out there.

The biggest dust-up that I ever saw here was a discussion about what atheism is and what agnosticism is, and the differences. I learned a lot in that one----more than I ever cared to know, if I were truthful.

It is rather quiet at the moment but it's not always that way.

This group has given me a lot of things to think about.

And a lot of things to laugh about too:

...except for the first-born children....those we barbeque every Tuesday and Thursday....As the newbie you will be expected to bring the potato salad and something low-calorie for dessert.

Other than that we're all pretty boring really...

The only time we have issues is when some disruptor has come in to shit in our safe haven. Luckily we block them pretty quickly. I don't know why but there seems to be a fair number of believers who think they need to monitor everything in this group, looking for violations so we atheists can be "kept in line." So I'm not saying to be careful, but just be careful.

Sometimes this is the only place I can find some actual sanity! Many here are brilliant and witty. AA posters have given me countless lolz and have brought many interesting topics to the table.

To this group, I have been reading without posting for some time now. Generally funny and enjoyable. I don't know all the protocols yet for posting, but look forward to putting in an opinion or observation occasionally. FYI, the National Atheist Party will officially change it's name to the Secular Party of America on August 1. This political group is focused on separation of church and state issues. It's not yet known if this will result in a viable political party. Aloha
