Prometheus vs Jesus--Russell's Teapot

So I'm prepping out my discussion of Frankenstein and I start with a discussion of Prometheus so the kiddies can understand the novel's subtitle. Found this that I usually share with them and thought people here would get a chuckle.

I always wondered how much of a sacrifice it was when he knew what was waiting on the other side.

Just as I wondered how Satan could tempt him with things when he was already, you know, god and all.

While it was declared heresy pretty early, the synoptic gospels, especially Mark, contain many references that imply that JC was not born divine but made so. It's nearly certain that some of the root stories from which the gospels arose contain a man made into a god, where the tempting makes more sense (as the story grew and changed of course, the tempting had to absorb the idea of a modalist always-god Jesus).

It's not like we're dealing with one author and a sedulous proofing editor here.

The extent that the NT is an elaboration of the intertestamental literature is remarkable.

Enoch, otherwise only a rather small scale figure (although very righteous,) grows in stature to become an angel.

It's only a step beyond that to a righteous man becoming a god.

And naturally the concept would be abhorrent to many Jews. And so it goes.
