The Bible is one of the most violent books ever written. There is no benevolent god there, but plenty of intolerance, hatred, and murder, written by men putting their own spin on circumstances they do not understand.

The Bible wasn't particularly violent for its time. The test is to wait 2000 years and see how it holds up as humanity evolves. Were verses written which demonstrated an insight into the Cosmos which men of the time couldn't have had? Were prophecies made which unambiguously came true? Or is it hopelessly rooted in the prejudices and ignorance of men of the time?

If you put a true one next to a bunch of false ones, it should stand out. Any book written by a perfect being billions of years old should age pretty well over a few thousand.
