http://www.wnd.com/2012/06/evolution-to-fall-in-2012/?cat_orig=educationA Gallup survey, Google.com search trends and some Amazon.com sales numbers all suggest evolutions ideological opponent, creationism, is on the rise in America...
...The article states, Forty-six percent of Americans believe in the creationist view that God created humans in their present form at one time within the last 10,000 years. The prevalence of this creationist view of the origin of humans is essentially unchanged from 30 years ago, when Gallup first asked the question.
eta: OF course, it's World Net Daily so yeah, they think they got it right. lolololol

"Evolution is a fact, not a theory." --Carl Sagan. The question is no longer whether, but how humans evolved from lower primates. The genetics and molecular biology are simply too well-established to dispute the "whether".

(18,219 posts)if it is just jumping on a bandwagon to prove how much of a believer you are!
I am always amazed that the same people who do not believe in evolution do not question that there is a problem with some bacteria becoming "superbugs". They don't question this. Some bacteria are becoming immune to antibiotics, this is accepted. But evolution is bunk. Duh! Does that tell you how ignorant of evolution these people are?

And the mix of denial, fantasy, and pseudoscience is mind-boggling.
Unsurprisingly, the evolution deniers who pretend to engage in argument (as opposed to mere spew) all trot out the same talking points (without actually understanding what they're parroting back):
1) You can't explain the origin of the universe itself, so evolution is wrong
2) The Cambrian Explosion proves there's not enough time for speciation to have taken place
3) James Watson was a racist
4) What about eyeballs? And rotary flagella?
5) Gawd will get you for this!
Same old, same old.

(206,016 posts)It's a woman I worked with for a long time and always liked, but this totally shocked me. I have friends who were raised Catholic, Jewish and Protestant, some are still practicing, but those who know this woman were as shocked as I was. But you're right, consider the source. Are they the ones with Batboy?

I know many Young Earth Creationists - my mom was as is her husband and their church. 2 of my 3 younger brothers are creationists.
Plus I live in the south. I know people who very literally believe that satan put fossils in the ground to trick believers and test their faith. They laugh heartily at carbon dating and science in general wherever it conflicts with their indoctrination. They do it on their computers.
If it wasn't so funny I'd cry.
