In the hardest-hit areas of eastern New England, upward of two feet of snow is possible, and dozens of flights have been canceled days in advance.
Cities such as Boston and Providence could be in line for a memorable event. A number of school districts are canceling classes preemptively for early next week.
The storm has prompted winter storm warnings from northeastern North Carolina to the Canadian border, with the plastering of snow likely to hamper travel and bring widespread disruption.
