Some years ago I met a man on a bus

I was seated in the back of an Albuquerque city bus, where there are two bench seats facing each other. Across from me was seated a man and woman, each about 45 years in age. (I was then about 66 years old)

The man said to me “Can I tell you something?” and I said “Sure”.

He said that he used to play in a small rock band in El Paso, Texas. Nothing fancy. It was more of a hobby. They played a couple local bars a few times each month. He would ride his motorcycle to the bar and home. They’d drink a few beers while they played, and during a break they’d go out back and smoke a joint of marijuana. That was their regular routine.

It rarely snows in El Paso, or at least not then. When he left to go home, he saw a “dusting” of snow on the street. Unseen was that the street under the snow was icy. A couple blocks from home, his motorcycle skidded, he fell off, and (not wearing a helmet) he hit his head on the concrete curb ... ending up in the hospital in a coma.

Fortunately he came out of the coma several days later with little damage.

He told me that while he was in the coma, his heart had stopped several times (so he was told).
He said he saw the bright light and tunnel people speak of. He said he was next in a large sports stadium, in the stands. At one end of the field was a beautiful bright glow, which he “knew” was God.

One by one peoples’ names were called out, and they approached ‘God’.
When his name was called, he was told it was not yet his time, and he then awoke from the coma.

He told me this with so much sincerity that I have to believe he experienced this.
I never saw the man before; haven’t seen him since.

Take of it what you will.

1. There are thousands of

similar near-death accounts. It's very affecting to be told one in person.

Several years ago a young woman whom I had a similar casual encounter told me of her experience, which involved seeing her deceased grandmother and a deceased cousin.

In my mind, there is no mistaking that these are real.

2. "near-death accounts"

I worked as a hospice nurse for a number of years and worked alongside some volunteers who had 'near death experiences'.

I've read a number of books on the subject, and the experiences of these volunteers on how they were affected afterwards were similar to what I read.
How it affected their marriage, goals, career choices, etc.

Most of the books I read were about adults in the U.S.

Then someone decided to do a study on children in India, and found out their NDEs were virtually similar to adults in America.
Except instead of seeing Jesus or 'God', they might see Buddha or Brahma.

3. There are quite a few books on this topic out there.

I've actually been reading about "near death experiences" since the early 1960's, because they'd show up in various strange books about psychic phenomena. It was Raymond Moody who first codified the accounts and came up with Near Death Experience (or NDE) as a label.

5. Raymond Moody

I think I read every book he wrote.
Surprising to me, the people I met who had NDEs say they'd not heard of him.

Let me add, except for the man on the bus, all the other people I met did not want to discuss their
experience, other than to say they had one, and how it had affected their life afterward.

It altered their life in a positive way.

4. Years ago my father

was diagnosed with liver cancer. He was given three weeks to live. A few weeks later, it had been really bad. I was with him in the hospital. His heart stopped twice that night, both times they brought in the crash carts and brought him back with defibrillater. He started feeling better after that and got the chance to go back home for a while. We never told him about the crash carts or that he flat lined. He told me one day after he went home that back when he was at the hospital Jesus came to him and told him that he could go right now, and it would be easy and he would just slip away, or he could stay for just a little while longer but it would be hard. He said he thought of his wife and children and wanted to see them some more and decided to stay for a little while longer. He lived for three more months, and it was hard for him at the end. But there were good times during that three months and I think the choice was worth it for him.

6. That's nothing

I've had some spectacular dreams in my life. Especially the ones in which I can fly. That's all NDEs are. And yes, my dreams REALLY happened.

7. Dreams when you're dead?

There are all types of non-believers.

Some will tell you the Moon landing was faked,
and the Earth is flat.

8. Who died and lived to tell about it?

Near death is not the same as death.

12. What you need to do is read

more about NDEs. Many of those who report them WERE clinically dead. Completely flatlined. And then they came back.

14. They weren't completely dead.

Certainly not for a significant time, like let's say, 24 hours. Sorry.
I'm not a doctor so you can say my opinion is worthless if you want.

13. Why do you bring "masturbation" into this thread?

You can either believe or not believe in near death experiences.

But to use this thread to post about 'masturbation' seems really bizarre.

I'm not familiar with you or your posting history,
but I'm wondering if this is something you routinely do.

Hijack a thread and post about sex.

Sad.

In my humble opinion.

15. there was a really cool show on tlc

(i think it was tlc) called beyond and back (i can't remember the exact title) but i loved it, watched it every week. it might have had 2 seasons. it's gone and i haven't been able to find much on it but it was absolutely fascinating. all about people's experiences with how they died and what happened or what they experienced during their death.

(i googled)
it was called "i survived...beyond and back"
https://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/i-survivedbeyond-and-back/348265/

i'm clicking on the videos on this; 2 seasons 21 episodes
i guess you can watch it on hulu
