2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie Heads to New Hampshire, Important Endorsement at News Conference 6PM, NYT
As Republican presidential candidates converge on South Carolina for a nationally televised debate, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont will be looking to solidify his lead in New Hampshire.
Mr. Sanders will head to Hanover, N.H., where he will hold a 6 p.m. news conference to announce what his campaign is describing as an important endorsement.
He will then hold a town-hall-style event at Dartmouth College, where the discussion is expected to focus on his plans for tuition-free higher education, climate change and economic inequality.
The events come as Mr. Sanders and Hillary Clinton have intensified their sniping less than three weeks before the Iowa caucuses. Mr. Sanders is leading in polls in Iowa and in New Hampshire, putting pressure on Mrs. Clinton to avoid a rocky start to the presidential primary election season.
Mr. Sanders has promised to release details of how he would pay for his universal health care plan before the caucuses, and Mrs. Clinton has been warning that his proposal would mean a big tax increase on the middle class.
No word on whether Mr. Sanders will offer more specifics about paying for the plan on Thursday.

(7,865 posts)That is an exaggeration.
She does sound a bit like the Republicans of the late 90's that did nothing but rant about taxes, or she could sound a bit like the Republicans that opposed Obamacare (minus the death panel talk)

I am a bit curious though. There aren't many endorsements you make a special trip for.

(7,865 posts)A President endorsing his Veep is the exception to the rule. Though yeah, they usually don't do that either.

It's gotta be an East Coast BIG NAME. It has to be EW...the coveted endorsement.

(22,308 posts)It is reasonable to assume that after 2 years of refinement the new ones will be even better.
Even if we just used the old ones we could attain universal coverage and the median reduction in costs to those now paying health care premiums would be about a hundred bucks a month.
That in itself is a winner. The new numbers will be even better.
Didn't anyone ever tell you to be careful what you wish for? You just might get it.

...more than I would ever trust Clinton with a plan that was finalized down to the letter.
Furthermore, I don't trust her to do what she says that she will. She's been running to the left as Bernie has been increasing in the polls. I don't believe for one second that she will do the things that she says.
She's suggesting to the world that she would be tougher on Wall Street than Bernie. Come on!
She has no credibility during a campaign season because she will say and do whatever is required to get her elected.
Bernie will likely close the loop on the final details of his healthcare plan. However, if he doesn't--I trust his judgement and I trust that he will fight for single-payer. I can't say the same about Clinton. That's for damn sure.

(12,655 posts)otoh, there is a lot of bad blood between hillary and bernie supporters right now. if the concerned person didn't know you were a bernie supporter, i guess it could be interepreted differently. its gotten that bad as you know.

(7,960 posts)-Jimmy Carter. He has a history of endorsing primary candidates and in his 90s and just having gone through cancer treatment no intention of running himself. He is also no big fan of the Clintons.
-Bruce Springsteen: He endorsed Obama last time, his politics fit Bernie's and he could also use the occasion to denounce Trump for using Born in the U.S.A. It would be sweet, no one does a takedown quite as elegantly as Bruce.
-Elizabeth Warren: Maybe Hillary turned her down for Veep.

him when he ran.and I don't think there is great love between him and clintons especilly when to dismiss obama winning SC In
2008 he threw him under buss dismissing his wins In SC in 1984 and 1988.
Since I don't think he helps in iowa and NH probally wrong but he would help post NH.try and claim bernie can't appeal to blacks

(41,131 posts)endorsement of Jackson, in 1988 I believe was very significant.
Last night on the David Pakman show on Free Speech TV a guest, a black news person I'm unfamiliar with commented that Bernie has made inroads with minorities- blacks and Latinos through staff and major field operations. But he noted that the black Democratic establishment prominent in South Carolina is pretty strong.

(4,959 posts)Robert Reich? The Sanders campaign stated that they received a letter signed by 170 economists endorsing his economic plan to reform Wall Street. His name is the first on the list. As someone who worked in Bill Clinton's administration, this could be important. Reich has consistently appeared to be backing Sanders - but this could be more formal - in addition to the other 169 names.
