NBC host Rachel Maddow confronted Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton on Thursday night, accusing her of casting aspersions on the character of rival Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
Clinton accused Sanders of being the first one on the Democratic side of the aisle to go negative with an attack ad, which Maddow said was mild, pointing out that Clintons name was never mentioned in the ad.
Anything personal, we dont do that in our side of the debate, Clinton said. We engage on substantive differences.
Clinton added that there were policy differences between the two candidates and that voters expect a spirited debate between them.
But Maddow insisted that the Clinton campaign was getting into the mud slinging.

(58,355 posts)1. Bernie's ad wasn't a "broad assertion of all Democrats" taking money from Wall Street and then trying to regulate them, it was of two competing visions within the Democratic Party of those that believe in the former and Democrats that believed this was an inherent conflict of interest.
2. Dodd Frank was not the "hardest regulation" against Wall Street's transgressions since the Great Depression, that would be Glass Stegall which was watered down over decades and eventually killed and of which Hillary doesn't support.
3. Hillary stated that Bernie's plan of Medicare for all was state based as if it were totally dependent on Governors enacting it, which is not the case if a state doesn't pick the plan up, the federal government will. This was overall a good interview by Rachel but I believe she let Hillary off the hook with no followup on that statement.
4. Hillary stated that Bernie's health care proposals would cost 15 trillion dollars with no mention of offsets or credits, one being the American People wouldn't be paying for profit "health" insurance premiums anymore and two we would be in a much stronger position under Bernie's plan to negotiate lower prescription drug prices, we currently pay the highest in the world.
5. Hillary stated that she supported universal coverage "no matter how we get there" that could include some major nightmares becoming reality for the American People, will taxes be raised on the most vulnerable to support such a plan?
6. Hillary stated that Bernie's plan would put all these other existing plans, Medicare, CHIP etc. etc. at risk which is blatantly false, they would either be incorporated under Bernie's more expansive plan if he were successful and continue to exist if he wasn't.
That's just a quick summary.
Thanks for the thread, Purveyor.

(58,355 posts)Rachel also left Hillary off the hook on the cost of Bernie's plan with no rebuttal or mention of the people not having to pay for profit insurance premiums nor the strengthened ability to negotiate lower prescription drug prices.
As a side note the commercial prior to this interview is by Showtime regarding the debates, call "The Circus" they show brief clips of Hillary, Trump, Cruz, Christie, Rubio, Bush, Carson and no visual of Bernie, so I've made a mental note to never subscribe to Showtime.
