What Happens If Colorado Legalizes Marijuana?

couldn't figure out what forum to post this in... I live in Colorado and has seen a big impact just from the dispenseries... however, the local cities and counties have succesfully kept the dispenceries, for the most part, out of the suburbs... this would be a massive change....

From The Colorado Independent's Scot Kersgaard.

If Amendment 64 passes, it will become almost immediately legal under Colorado law for adults to possess, grow, consume and give away up to an ounce of marijuana. It may take more than a year, however, before adults can purchase marijuana legally in a store.

A poll released in early September by Public Policy Polling shows the amendment continues to lead, currently by a 47-38 margin, with 15 percent still undecided. Passage could enable the state to increase tax revenues by $50 million a year or more while also potentially reducing law enforcement costs.

If the measure passes, the parts of the amendment related to individual behavior go into effect as soon as the governor signs a proclamation certifying the results of the election, which he is required to do within 30 days.

Sections related to the commercial cultivation and sale of marijuana would take effect incrementally but marijuana would be available for sale legally no sooner than late 2013 or early 2014.

Even if the state moves forward with implementation in a timely fashion, it is anyone’s guess what the federal response–if any–will be. The feds could do nothing, could move to block implementation, or could wait until legal businesses are set up and then move to shut them down, possibly arresting owners and employees in the process.

Then, maybe, the republicans will see daylight as their heads slowly pull from out of their asses.

Once they see the tax revenue stream and the consumption of liquor drops. Maybe people like me with
severe arthritis will find relief and will stop taking some of the dangerous drugs now prescribed.

Oh, I forgot, big pharma and the liquor industries will fight it with every fiber of their greedy asses.

and this will offend,
but because one of the major reasons why White people fear a black president is the idea that :all those lazy n(censored) wanna do is smoke dope and not pick our cotton like the lord meant them to do." and of course, the way for any non white to advance is to prove they are really white internally. Yes, it is the racial self-hatred you have do adapt if you want to be succesful, plus, on the Clinton end, it is also the way to prove you are not a "hippie" that just wants to smoke dope all day,.

Seriously ? The war on drug begins to begins its end.

Your economy gets a jolt of adrenaline. The hemp part being just as important as thè bud part.

The western states all go legal within 5 years. They cannot afford not to.

POTUS will probably take weed off schedule 1 next year because he has no choice. It's not like Holder is going to sue. POTUS won't die on that hill. There is a mountain off evidence supporting the medical and economic benefit of legal cannabis. It makes the evidence supporting same sex marriage look feeble

Just vote. Get your friends to vote. When they ask why, tell them that it's a pure pocket book issue. Ask them if they are for or against thè Mexican drug cartels. Ask them if they want the cops focusing on real crime or running around the mountains playing Rambo.

Once back in the early 80's this gal who worked for a small record label in NYC came here and I took her to Red Rocks to see Boz Scaggs.
It was a beautiful night, huge orange full moon. She was not impressed, when we returned to my place, she called her boyfriend and said "all these people in CO do is smoke pot and drink beer". Like it was a bad thing????

DEA doesn't have the resources to fight drugs at a local level. If marijuana possession is no longer a state crime, feds will kick and scream, but they're powerless to stop it.
