Press Release:
Sanders Marks King Holiday on Civil Rights Tour in South, Addresses 7,000 at Birmingham Rally
The vision he had for the future in many ways remains unfulfilled, Sanders said. If we are serious about remembering his legacy, we will continue the fight for racial justice, economic justice and for a nation in which all people live with dignity. We still have a long way to go. Sanders also stopped at the Civil Rights Institute, a museum where he touched the bars of the Birmingham jail cell where King was held.
Sanders later addressed a packed nighttime rally at Birminghams Boutwell Auditorium. There were 5,700 supporters jammed inside. Another 1,400 braved unusual sub-freezing weather to watch on a jumbo TV in an overflow area outside. There must be a mistake. Somebody told me Alabama is a conservative state, Sanders said to loud cheers.
In his remarks at the rally, Sanders also invoked the memory of King. To truly honor Dr. King we must fight to carry out his radical and bold vision for America. He saw the relationship between racism and economics and war. That was his courage.

to which I say - If you have to listen NOW to what people's problems are you have not been paying attention in the first place!

(8,287 posts)hillbilly cousins (lovingly noted ones) in Alabama are very liberal democrats. Not a racist bone in their bodies and that's why I still love them. There are few other cousin relatives in Arkansas that are racist assholes that I don't associate with. They freaking HATE Obama and watch Fox Spews every day. Wrote those people out of my life forever.

(11,945 posts)Can never tire of seeing Bernie talking to thousands of people in a crowded venue. It just spells l-o-v-e.
And Alabama, no less!

(88,117 posts)And in Birmingham...
There's been no mention of Florida at all though by his campaign that I know of. It's assumed Florida is unwelcome territory for him....when actually it isn't.
senz
(11,945 posts)Yes, I sense the people of Florida are sick and tired of being abused. They'd welcome Bernie with open arms.

(46,436 posts)I have a FB friend, a rabid Hillary supporter, who is breathlessly posting this http://www.al.com/news/birmingham/index.ssf/2016/01/on_coldest_night_of_2016_birmi.html tonight (also a Gawker article) as if Bernie alone is responsible for people not having this particular warming station. Bernie obviously wants the homeless freezing in the streets. SMH

(46,436 posts)She's one of those people you can't really reason with who posts something negative towards Bernie almost every day. What I don't understand is why she doesn't just praise Hillary if she loves her so much instead or tearing Bernie down. I'm no fan of Hillary's, but I do go out of my way not to bash her.

I hope your friend does not represent most Americans, otherwise we'd perish of our own stupidity.
