So flippin stoked right now -

Last edited Wed Jan 20, 2016, 06:38 PM - Edit history (1)

We have a couple friends that identify as Pubs. One young lady, super smart, super open - not sure why she still identifies as GOP but she does very strongly. I've been gently talking to her about the candidates we have running, and talk by talk I am attempting to expand her view of the world as a whole.

Segue into talking about Sanders health care calculator on reddit, and I show it to her. I show her that our family would actually lose money (we have tricare) but we don't mind because "A healthier society is a more productive society and that benefits all of us." (See what I did there? Corporate america wants workers productive, it's a theme that dribbles down and saturates the entire parties thought process) She nods and asks how much her family would lose. I type in her numbers and her family will end up saving right around 5k, employer around 8k. She's stunned. "Why didn't we know about this?!" (She's politically active locally) "Why isn't the party jumping all over this? This is what we're SUPPOSED to be doing, the GOP is supposed to be for the common man! Can I have that link? I need to show it to my people...ASAP!" Followed by more than a few colorful remarks.

And so the seed of progressive activism is sown, Yes -- the GOP is SUPPOSED to be for the common man, or at least that's what they want their base to believe. Now go hold them accountable with your eyes wide open and vote with the best person in mind. Bernie Sanders. (pleasepleaseplease)

Before the naysayers respond, I know getting a highly active GOP member to look at things from the center left and vote for who is the best for ALL of us seems too difficult to do, too implausible. But I used to sit where she is, I used to be blind just like she is, I left the GOP a long time ago and am so much happier for it. I have to try, and keep trying every chance I get. There are genuinely good people that follow the elephant who if people on our side only took the time to TALK TO THEM, they would finally see the GOP doesn't have the common man in mind anymore. They deserve better than being treated like chattel and taken advantage of.

Just wanted to share.

Not every Republican is a racist/facist/tea bagger, some of them can be redeemed - we have many former GOPers posting here.

Reach one, teach one!

The Democratic and Republican parties are only two sides of the same brain. We are one, and we need to work together. Our whole purpose is balance each other out.

But things are so out of wack now, I don't think we'll achieve balance. Bernie needs to return the Democratic party to what it was MEANT to be all along. And.... Someones gotta do something about the Republican party. And it ain't any of their current candidates.

The health care profiteers enlisted their media allies to black out unbiased information about single payer health care.

The information we have heard about single payer is usually contrived criticism of the Canadian system with no counter arguments allowed. We have watched this for decades.

The profiteers have brought this on themselves. If they held down the price of drugs, insurance premiums and deductibles the US could have remained an entirely private system forever.

Too late. We will have single payer. The best thing the corporations can do is step aside and invest their money in something else.

Most people fall into the trap of exchanging deceptive talking points to each other rather than really discussing issues in an intellectually honest way. Kudos!

I am a Clinton supporter. I pay $166/month for BCBS Gold. Why would I sign on to a healthcare policy that will give less of what I am paying for. I am also a diabetic. What's the incentive for me to switch to Sanders plan which includes more taxes and possibly less benefits and coverage?

I guess because it means EVERYONE has coverage? It would mean that the current 29 million without coverage would be covered? Are those good enough reasons to pay a little bit more? Is the common good important? These are questions that you alone can answer for yourself. . . I would gladly pay a bit more to see that everyone is covered.

Fuck You attitude, but I can get one. My point is to just jump on Bernie's healthcare plan just because he proposed it is not smart. I'm a staunch Democrat so don't question my loyalty to the party. Bernie admitted in the last debate that his healthcare plan was not very detailed and that it still needed work.

I'll tell you this much. So, $6.25 a week with no copays or very little deductible ($1,000) vs $166 a month with copays and deductibles up the wazoo. I think Bernie's plan is viable, plus it reduces drug costs significantly.

To oppose Bernie's single payer plan is unDemocratic. Therefore, you are not a staunch Democrat. You're a Third Wayer with major problems. That's the major reason why Clinton will lose along with her tiny bubble of supporters. I now estimate a total of under 10 million will vote for her in the primaries. Bernie has more than 85 million people ready to vote for him.
