(751 posts)"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members...
It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East, which as we know all too well, effects American security.
This is a very difficult vote, this is probably the hardest decision I've ever had to make. Any vote that might lead to war should be hard, but I cast it with conviction."
If she voted with conviction, why wouldn't she make the same call as commander in chief?

(38 posts)This was pre-planned before 9/11 by the major players. You can't plug anyone else's name in your scenario with any realism. This was the neocon strategy and the 9/11 attack gave them the opportunity to link terrorism to their phony WMD intelligence and uranium from Niger.
You can't associate this devious plan to anyone else but the Cheney/Bush administration. They owned it, planned it, and put it in motion after bluffing the Congress into buying their story and ignoring the UN inspectors who insisted they were wrong.

(11,619 posts)President Gore would not have done it, and neither would President Clinton.
I mean, really, who else would have believe we could create a Jeffersonian Democracy in the center of the middle east, which would spread American Style Freedom fries to every part of the world.

She was behind Libya. God, she doesn't even learn from her mistakes.

(40,416 posts)She wasn't!!!! So it is stupid and inane to posit such an absurd question.
And I am a Bernie supporter. But posts like these make my teeth hurt. I just don't like such a contrafactus. It serves no rational purpose other than to make for arbitrary disagreements. And we already have plenty of them without stirring the pot more.
Sorry.

(2,510 posts)Saddam and the Bush family.
George W. Bush and friends were hoping to do it long before 9-11 ever happened, before he even took office--- they just needed an excuse.
Saddam threatened the death of Daddy Bush over the previous Gulf war,
and W. had it in for him just because he threatened Daddy--
That was his whole motivation. It was no more complicated than that.
The neo-cons took control of him and helped prod him into it, for their own reasons.
Not having that "personal motivation", I don't think Hillary would have gone that far--
However, her policy ties to the neo-cons who wanted it are troubling.
