http://www.msnbc.com/all-in/watch/ta-nehisi-coates-on-bernie-sanders-605521475988

Host Chris Hayes had author Ta-Nehisi Coates on the show Jan. 20 to ask him about the article he wrote this week in The Atlantic on reparations for slavery and the views of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. Chris says he's been contacted about concerns over the matter. A video clip of Rap/Activist Killer Mike who objected to the piece is featured briefly.

It's interesting to think about the extent to which the Great Migration contributed to the South's poverty; as Wilkerson points out it was the most educated cohort that migrated (the migrators had higher average educational attainment than the whites in the cities they moved to); the South basically drove off half of its most educated population.

I'd be really curious to see Wilkerson do a piece on the reverse migration that seems to be happening now.

Was that Coates was more upset by Sanders not responding to his request for comment than his actual comments on reparations.

Clinton. I haven't heard Hillary's thoughts on the matter. Guess we'll have to wait for the wind to blow to find out.

That they're for "investments" not "reparations."

(Hillary Clinton was asked during the Fusion TV channel forum.)

He can't even see it either. Coates is humored only because he generates clicks by publications desperate for traffic. He is used, not taken seriously.

Spent 5 years at Howard and didn't get a degree. Googled it and he says he failed most of his classes. Now he writes race essays for The Atlantic.

Well damn, I'll just back away right now. I apologize to this illustrious intellectual. Can't compete with that.

The attacks on this brilliant man are disgusting, especially coming from so-called liberals, most of whom Coates - who received a Genius Grant from the MacArthur Foundation - runs intellectual circles around, regardless whether he received a degree from Howard or not.

And you wonder why black folk aren't falling all over themselves to support Bernie Sanders, even if he did "march with Dr. King . . ."

I know from personal experience that Senator Sanders is a good man - and one who would never speak about people (including ones of color) in the condescending, rude, patronizing and, yes, bigoted way that many of his supporters do on this board and elsewhere, just because they happen to disagree with him. But when people with such attitudes are the face of his campaign, don't be surprised that those who only know him through his supporters are considerably less than impressed with Sen. Sanders and even less likely to support him.

You do your candidate a tremendous disservice.

Then politics should be the least of your concerns. A politician can't help you.

Bernie will actually hurt me. I would be better off voting for Hillary, she will keep the status quo and won't raise my taxes like Bernie.

If you want poor people to suffer more under inadequate medical systems and crony capitalism, here's your ballot marked Hillary. Might as well be a loaded gun. Point it at your foot and pull the trigger. Read some Ta Nehisi Coates, maybe his ramblings will numb your pain. That will show me!

Unless a civil rights proponent has worked out how to apply a civil rights remedy to every single group, they insist the issue can't even be discussed.

Very typical and often very effective.
