2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIs it that big of a deal that President Obama has not met with other world leaders this week?
I am constantly hearing about how much of a mistake President Obama is making by going on The View and Letterman and ignoring other world leaders. Is it that big of a deal? You see, I'm confused! First, according to the RW, it would be a big mistake to sit down with other world leaders. Now, he is catching heat for not meeting with them. Which one is it?
Also, Joe Scar, this morning was ranting about how the president does not like to engage others. Seeing it with my own naked eyes, I've always seen President Obama as person that possess a hearty handshake, warm smile, and an engaging conversation that seem so show care and concern. I cannot imagine him to be someone that'll shy away from conversing with other world leaders. But then again that is just me!
Someone please enlighten me?!?

(60,334 posts)The right wing would be bitching about that.
No matter what Obama does, the right wing talking heads are going to ridicule it.

It is always tough to lose an American ambassador and embassy workers. It is an outrage and it is sad. But it DOES happen, despite our best efforts. The bad stuff is happening in the world's most volatile places right now, countries going through revolutionary spasms. Those times have come before. They will come again. We will not be perfect, not ever.
It helps to put this in perspective. Look at the losses of American marines in Lebanon under Reagan, the attack on the USS Cole and the embassy attacks under Clinton, two popular U.S. presidents.
We will move on.

(1,185 posts)Because "meeting with world leaders" involves humongous outlay of incredible cost...for all countries involved...secret service, local police, Air Force 1 etc. Just guessing, but seems like he needs to stay here in the continental US taking care of official business and politics not looking for the more of the obvious "swooning" of the Europeans who are most anxious for his second term.
The rest of your post was right on. Have you not seen the multiple photos of Barack and Michelle and "the babies"? Too adorable for words.
I'm sure he is protecting our international status...he's got the telephone, wireless connection, video, internet, email, etc.

(15,800 posts)If he HAD spoken privately with any of them, he would have been accused of politicizing their presence. The right wing, and their media megaphones, are shifting into high gear in these last weeks before the election. They will be presenting the President in negative light even if they have to twist, distort, and fictionalize even more than usual. Case in point -- this morning on MSNBC, Chris Janssing and Andrea Mitchell were having a contest to see who could piss more on Obama; it was intense and more than a little disgusting.

(27,787 posts)If Obama met with Muslim leaders, Scabby would claim Obama was "apologizing".
And no matter what Obama does, the GOP screams bloody murder. Even when he adopts one of their policy positions. As soon as he adopts it, they HATE it.
Hell, they screamed when he put mustard on a hamburger ... until they realized that most people in Texas do that too.
My advice ... They are insane, spend less time listening to them.
