One thing Bernie forgot to mention during the town hall

when the lady in the audience asked him the question: why would women want to vote for him over Hillary in regards to women's issues, implying that a President Hillary would be better for women because she is a woman.

That would have been the perfect moment to bring up his plan for Universal Maternity Leave (aka Family and Medical Leave). The other things he mentioned were good (raising MW, tuition free college, greater SS benefits for women) but those things aren't really women-specific. He did talk about Family and Medical Leave in regard to something else the moderator asked him about, but it would have been so much more effective had he brought it up when the lady in the audience asked him about his support of women's issues, and he could go into detail about how a PAID national maternity leave program would be a massive benefit for working mothers.

It would have been HUGE, because no other candidate is offering a plan for UNIVERSAL PAID MATERNITY LEAVE. It's great that he mentioned it during the town hall but timing is also important if you want to maximize the effectiveness of your message and in that sense it was a lost opportunity imo; and bringing it up at that moment would have really hit it home. Otherwise he did an awesome job.

Hillary Clinton Calls For Paid Family Leave In Mother's Day Campaign Video

You can’t go on and on about how much you love mothers and then fail to support legislation that makes life easier for them," the talk show host said.

Hillary Clinton's latest campaign video is all about paid family leave.

Released on Mother's Day,
the video touts Clinton's commitment to fighting for paid family leave, citing her own mother and daughter as inspirations. "At a time that should be so exciting and joyful, I see so many women who are just distraught," she states. "They have to immediately go back to work. They don't know how they're going to manage."

She continues, “It’s outrageous that America is the only country in the developed world that doesn’t guarantee paid leave.”

Clinton's video comes on the same day that John Oliver devoted a segment to paid family leave on "Last Week Tonight." Specifically, he targeted politicians who express support for mothers but don't vote in favor of paid leave.

3. Bernie has supported Paid Family and Medical Leave since he began his campaign.

He also supports Sen. Gillibrand's legislation, which is moving its way through Congress. Hillary does not. Figure that one out.

7. Apparently he'd make some changes but still wants to keep it

There is NOTHING about the Hyde Am that should be kept.
Its only purpose was to undercut Roe v Wade, introduced 7 yrs after Roe became law. And it has done exactly that.
Its not even a Law, its a rider that keeps hanging around, used as needed.

Its been hidden & never talked about until Hillary Clinton addressed the horrendous thing in her 2016 Campaign, & why it needs to be ended forever.

Burnie cannot placate both Parties by half-way supporting the Hyde Am.
Not with this ugly thing.
You are either for its restrictive wording or you are flat out against it.
Wish-wash doesn't work on this subject.

Bernie has been voting against the Hyde Amendment for decades, he just said he want it repealed. When did he say he would keep it?

You need to link to prove you're not just making it up.

5. Talking and doing are two different things

she gives lip service but has done nothing to advance it in congress.

I don't think Clinton mentioned it during the town hall debate. She doesn't seem to be passionate about the issue, preferring to give occasional lip service and certainly not as passionate to the degree as
Sanders who mentions it in every one of his speeches. That article you listed was written in May. Has Hillary talked about it since? I don't think she even mentioned it last night at the town hall.

Given her lack of enthusiasm for it I doubt she would put up much of a fight, if any, for it as President. Probably because she is beholden to Wall Street and if Wall street thinks mandatory paid leave would hurt their bottom line, she's not going to push for it.

10. Lol. Here try this. And yes, she was on this subject WAAAY back in May.

Actually before that. Like in 2007.

And btw, it is Gillibrand's bill, Not Bernie's to own.
Yes, glad to see him support it, even in a campaign year.
And btw, Gillibrand's bill sounds an awful lot in support of HRC's policy plan.
But then the two women are side by side on women's policy issues.
Too bad Hillary has no current vote in the Senate, but she will certainly have a powerful place as US President to finally advance women's issues she addresses in her campaign.
Finally.

Glad Bernie hopped on board.

Here:

Paid family and medical leave

It’s time to guarantee paid family and medical leave in America.

Hillary will:

Guarantee up to 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave.

Ensure at least a two-thirds wage replacement rate for workers.

Pay for paid leave by making the wealthiest pay their fair share—not raising taxes on working families.

“For many workers, staying home to take care of a sick child or an aging parent means losing a paycheck—or worse, even losing a job. That is an impossible choice we shouldn’t ask anyone to make—and yet American workers are forced to make it every day.”

HILLARY, NOVEMBER 9, 2015

Today, the United States is the only developed nation in the world with no guaranteed paid leave of any kind. In fact, only 13 percent of American workers have access to paid family leave—with the lowest paid workers up to four times less likely to have access than the highest paid.

Hillary has long believed it’s past time for that to change. In an economy where both men and women typically hold down a paying job and women are breadwinners in two-thirds of families with children, paid family and medical leave is core to our economic growth and competitiveness. Paid leave helps families remain economically stable, benefits children’s early health and development by allowing parents to care for their newborn children, and reduces employee turnover. The availability of paid leave bolsters our economy by allowing more Americans to participate fully in the workforce and ensures that we don’t leave any talent on the sidelines.

11. And Here: CONT..

As president, Hillary will:

Guarantee up to 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave. Under Hillary’s plan, workers—men and women—will be guaranteed up to 12 weeks of paid family leave to care for a new child or a seriously ill family member, such as an elderly, ailing parent or a spouse with cancer, and up to 12 weeks of medical leave to recover from a serious illness or injury of their own.

Enable hard working Americans to support their families economically while on leave. To ensure families remain stable and supported during both joyful and stressful times—like when a new baby arrives, a worker gets cancer, or an employee must care for an elderly parent suffering from Alzheimer’s—Hillary’s plan will provide financial support to workers taking leave. Under her plan, workers who have met a minimum number of hours the previous year will receive a percentage of their income during leave.

Ensure at least a two-thirds wage replacement rate for workers. Hillary’s plan will ensure that the wage replacement rate is at least two-thirds of a worker’s current wages, up to a ceiling, so that low-income and middle class workers receive the financial support they need to take the leave they need.

No new business or employee mandate. Hillary’s plan will not impose additional costs on businesses, including small businesses. There is no business or employee mandate to pay for leave, nor is there a payroll tax to pay for it.

Fund paid leave by making the wealthy pay their fair share, not by increasing taxes on working families. Hillary strongly believes that middle class families deserve a raise, not a tax increase. American families need paid leave, and to get there, Hillary will ask the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share. She’ll ensure that the plan is fully paid for by a combination of tax reforms impacting the most fortunate.

Paid leave is crucial for families and critical to economic growth.

****************
I'll just stop here. Now I really want to see Bernie Sanders' detailed policy plan on this subject.
Or any detailed policy plan on any subject, for that matter.

I hear a lot of good ideas from him, but the proof is in the pudding, and so far I just don't see him having a well thought out plan, one that gets him from start to finish.

I guess I expected more from someone who has sat in the Federal branch of US Govt as many years as Bernie Sanders has.

Writing a detailed policy plan to go with his ideas should be easy procedure for him by now.
Thanks

you know, the Paid Family Leave bill written by Kirsten Gillibrand that he co-sponsors.

its pretty simple, a $1.61 average payroll tax per week to fund the program.
