DES MOINES, Iowa Two of Americas most famous ice cream makers are trying to help Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) scoop up all the support he can ahead of the Iowa Caucus on Feb. 1.

Weve known Bernie for over 30 years. Hes been consistent with his message. He has never wavered. Hes working for veterans, for seniors, for working families, for students, working on income and wealth inequality, working on the rigged political system, Jerry said.

Ever the entrepreneur, Ben took advantage of the Bernie phenomenon to honor the candidate with a new flavor. Since their company has been owned by Unilever since 2001, Bernies Yearning is packaged under the Bens Best label, and being distributed for free to promote Sanders candidacy. In Winterset on Tuesday, Ben told the crowd he had made 40 pints of it in his home kitchen.
He explained how it happened: You know, every time I go out and speak on behalf of Bernie, people say, well, Whats the Bernie flavor? So, I came up with this flavor called Bernies Yearning and what it is is, you take the top off the container and what you see is this huge disk of solid chocolate. And underneath the huge disk of solid chocolate is just plain mint ice cream, Ben said. That huge dIsk of solid chocolate represents all the wealth thats gone to the top one percent since the end of the recession. And the way you eat it is that you take a soup spoon and you whack it, you knock that piece of solid chocolate up into a lot of little pieces, you let the ice cream soften up a little, and then you mix it all around, and there you have it.

(24,324 posts)2. Yea, in winter.
If you knew anything about ice cream, and have ever been to St Petersburg or Moscow or Oslo or Copenhagen or Helsinki in January,
Ah, forget it.

around...trust me, it is warm inside. And the flavor selection...mmmmmmm.
ETA: Ben and Jerry are from Vermont...a pretty cold state. How could they ever manage to make a profit in those cold, winter months? LOL
