2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIt's important for Bernie to win IA
It's important for Bernie to win IA for one big reason. The race needs to be kept alive as an insurance policy. Some prominent sources are saying that if Bernie loses IA, it's likely over. Even only extending it to March 1 is important.
Why? Two reasons...
1. Because if there really is something screwy in Hillary's email, we need to buy time and have a replacement ready.
2. Because she channeled Kanye and Tay Tay with her comments that universal health-care will "never ever" happen. The Democratic Party needs to understand that there is real support for universal care.
#1 is a practical reason. But #2 has me annoyed. I understand that it's unlikely we'll get Medicare for all or something like that soon, but the "nevah evah" stuff is bullshit. Universal Healthcare should be the ultimate goal for all Democrats and left-minded people. Healthcare like police, fire, etc. is a right; and the for-profit model in the US is a scam.
What happens if the race is extended? Either Hillary does what Romney 2012 did and eventually vanquishes her lesser foes or her flaws are exposed and she is replaced. I can live with that. Of course, there is a nightmare scenario where her flaws are exposed and she's not replaced. Can't worry about that one right now.

Hillary said the former, not the latter.
I hope you're not deliberately ignoring that distinction in order to mislead anyone as to what was actually said.

(81,856 posts)There is no distinction. And "never ever" implies eternity.

(27,814 posts)"Hillary Clinton on Friday cast Bernie Sanders' plan for single-payer health insurance as an "idea that will never, ever come to pass."
The swipe builds on Clinton's repeated rhetoric against the Vermont senator's proposed single-payer, Medicare-for-all health care plan that he proposed earlier this month."
The "theoretical debate about some better idea that will never, ever come to pass" is about Bernie's plan, which is the topic she is discussing here.

Fact remains that Hillary is specifically dismissing Bernie's plan for universal healthcare and the fact his plan will never pass.
Trying to turn that into "she said universal healthcare will never pass" is - well, I'll just call it silly, and leave it at that.

And if Bernie makes a mistake, it is Hillary's fault.

(81,856 posts)Sanders is a 1.0 candidate. His candidacy is important because it will light the spark. The promise of his candidacy will be fulfilled in 2020 or 2024 by someone else. That's why Sanders supporters shouldn't get depressed when he loses. He never really had a chance and it's about the long game.

(56,582 posts)has me really annoyed.
She said Sanders's poorly-thought-out single payer plan will never happen, which is true. We absolutely won't get universal health care from people who can't even be bothered to recognize that you can't have a negative amount of spending on pharmaceuticals.
But,
1. There are single payer plans out there that are actually mathematically possible, and
2. There are universal health care systems out there (the vast majority of them, in fact) that are not single payer to begin with
