If these odds are correct, there are going to be some sad and angry people here. We'll see what happens.

or odds line in Vegas is not the opinion of a bookie or parimutual pool.
Their numbers are based on the dollar action being wagered by their bettors.
Right now Carolina is a 6 point fave in the Super Bowl not because the bookies think they'll win but rather because most of the money is being bet by gamblers on them to win.
The line then adjusts to draw more bettors to the other side to balance out the action and the bottom line balance sheet at the end of the day.
If the bookies say it it's because their numbers and bettors say it.

It's like explaining to someone at the track that you don't have to know anything dogs, horses, or odds. To win I only have to be smarter than you. It doesn't go over very well despite being the truth.

streak.
One of the things he does when he doesn't know what horse to bet on is realize everyone at the track is a loser too so he asks what horse they like and there's a great montage of all his cronies saying the horse by number but no one picks #7 or whatever and he bets on that horse and it wins.

Hilarious movie about gambling and human nature.

Teri Garr plays his non gambling girlfriend and as they sit in the fancy turf club she asks out loud why these people can't just watch the race without betting on it and the whole restaurant just laughs at her.

What you said is why one should run to the window before it closes for any entry that has $0 in the pool.

Bookies just try to get the same amount of money on both sides of the bet. And I now see Team Pooka made the same point above.
