Sounds good to me!

Former Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is setting a low bar for President Barack Obamas debate performance, saying that he only needs to be believable to be re-elected.
The former House Speaker on Friday told MSNBC that GOP hopeful Mitt Romney would need a very strong debate to even have a chance at the White House.
Theyre whistling past the graveyard, Gingrich said of the Romney campaign. I think that everybody Ive talked to agrees that hes had two and a half very tough weeks. I do agree, I think they started with the Clinton speech [at the Democratic Convention] and then they got compounded by all the other stuff that happened.
I do think in all fairness to Romney, when it got to be a crisis in Florida [during the Republican primaries], he was very good in the debates, he explained. That better be the Romney that goes to the debate with Barack Obama.

(11,360 posts)... just because someone can best you in a debate does not mean they are "good in debates".

(8,964 posts)that you lameneted in the primaries a few months back. After all, Todd Akin NEEDS you (to help him lose the election).

(58,654 posts)I think "believable" is RW dog-whistle talk for "truthful."
He's trying to say that President Obama will be "acting believable" when it is Romney who is acting.....about being human, mostly, I think.

(8,224 posts)will cast the current trend in concrete. If BHO was well behind and stretching for a big score, Rmoney would have a shot at the debates. With BHO sitting on a big lead going in, Rmoney is the one needing to land some very big punches. He does not have them to throw. (he would need to be about something - have an actual ideology - to pull that off) BHO can just sit back, smile, and sound serious, reasonable, and composed. He is very, very, good at that.

(827 posts)That gave him room to smash Gingrich, which honestly wasn't that hard to do.
Romney cannot afford to come off as unlikeable in this debate when he's already trailing badly in that department. The town hall debate is a format he has to come off as relatable. I just don't see that happening.
