2016 Postmortem

INTERVIEWER: Hmmm, okay. So, what if I were to tell you The Washington Post said that Bernie Sanders campaign promises would cost more than $20 trillion and would raise everyones taxes would you now be more likely or less likely to vote for Sanders, or has your opinion remained unchanged?
ME: Thats not accurate at all. I read that editorial last week. I could tear that completely to shreds. How much time DO YOU HAVE? Let me to set the record straight and explain to you how The Post post misrepresented several of Sanders policy positions.
INTERVIEWER: Ummmmm. Uhhhhhhh. So, would you now be more likely or less likely to vote for Sanders, or has your opinion remained unchanged?
ME: My position remains unchanged, because the premise of the question isnt just misleading. Its wrong. Do you understand that?

(23,156 posts)Typically a polling firm of some kind is hired for this, and there's a script that they are not allowed to deviate from, which is why, despite the OP offering valid counter information, the person continued with the script, even though it no longer made sense. I've been push polled in the past, and if you don't swallow whatever crap is said, it goes quickly downhill.

(3,212 posts)I hate push polls, and I just tell them that I know what they're doing and hang up.
But, remember, this is microscopic compared to what the GOP would do to Bernie in the General.
Hold on to your seats.

And I would vote for Bernie as the nominee, but most of the country won't sadly.

It was a change election, but he's having a very successful administration, despite extreme GOP obstructionism.
It wasn't a revolution. America doesn't do revolutions except in extreme circumstances.
We need to build on progress not throw it out and start over.
IMHO.

Our Country moves ahead by leaps and bounds, we slowly fall backwards by baby steps.

(57,936 posts)The media does not talk about it.
Look up Works Progress Administration.
That's just one of many, many programs that FDR instituted in order to boost our economy at a difficult time.
Americans are ignorant about the 1930s and FDR's administration.
I know about it because my mother was born in 1916 and lived through the Great Depression. She credited Roosevelt. He was like a saint in her mind. FDR was a fantastic president and he oversaw a democratic revolution.
I don't think that Bernie is talking about nearly as ambitious a program as FDR put through. Bernie calls it a revolution because he wants more political participation by ordinary, working people.
We ordinary working people have very little influence in our government at this time.
Bernie's revolution is to have a positive democratic movement. He is not suggesting having a bunch of crazies running around. I think a lot of people, even some Democrats misunderstand that. But if you listen to Bernie's speeches on YouTube, you understand what he means.

(15,512 posts)That's been my experience for the last 10 years. I have a landline and get tons of pollsters for local, state and national races and about two-thirds are push-polls which are run by marketing firms. They're usually reluctant to divulge and sometimes have to ask permission but they've rarely hung up on the question.
Admiral Loinpresser
(3,859 posts)This guy couldn't get any info from them.

(15,512 posts)He got that info. In any case he didn't ask until he'd already insulted the hell out of the caller and then he did it rudely:
Of course they haven't called back. Also, he says he has caller ID and apparently it showed a number which he could have followed up on before running to the Twittersphere with his righteous tale. I'm calling BS, sorry, no pun intended.

The push poll was absolutely NOT conducted by Bernie's campaign. It would be pretty stupid to do that to yourself.

someone you know can call the campaign headquarters and ask for a copy of the questions?
Or, if that doesn't workmaybe contact a local reporter and ask her/him to follow up on this?
This should be a bigger story than just what we can do here.
Write a letter to the Editor of your local paper and describe what you experienced.
Thanks for telling us.

(5,668 posts)when Hillary says Bernie does negatives no he's point out open facts or open opinions. nothing misleading negative = misleading or lies. attacking a person doesn't mean negative. and also as someone says this is why I'll never participate in a poll
Admiral Loinpresser
(3,859 posts)It was a push poll. Push polls are political dirty tricks.
PatrynXX
(5,668 posts)sorry I have to smile. Yeah I know what you mean but picking up the phone and thinking before hand is it a push poll or a real poll you don't know. Thus why I don't pick up polls.
Admiral Loinpresser
(3,859 posts)If they ask your opinion, it's a poll. If they give you "facts" to persuade you, then ask your opinion, it's probably a push poll. Names are funny things, e.g. the "Holy Roman Empire" was nether holy, Roman, or even an actual empire.
