45. At least she wears stuff more than once.

.

When people talk about a woman's clothing, or their appearance it is done to lower their favorability by 5%.

Rutgers-Eagleton's Center for American Women and Politics compiled research, that was taught in a Women and Politics course that showed gendered attacks hurt female candidates, whereas male candidates are unaffected.

This is why media talks about a woman candidate's clothes. It not only burns up their small allotment of time so real issues cannot be discussed, but it also reflects negatively on the electability of a candidate. This is not just how society works, there is a dynamic that hurts female candidates, delegitimizes them if the topics of voice, appearance, etc. are raised.

48. I would normally never raise the issue of clothing (I don't care)

Except to say that it could be a dogwhistle to special interests. I have not commented on how she looks in the photo or my opinion of the appropriateness of the jacket. Such commentary would surely be subject to the well taken points you make; but I have not made such statements.

63. The male "suit" is so uniform, for so many decades,

the colors are so the same, it's bloody boring.

Hillary's clothes and fashion choices are interesting to me. I think she has very good fashion sense. She can be very regal - I often think of Mao Zedong, but with 21st century designers, in some photos of her. She's very confident in her clothes, and that's a plus.

I'm not the only one, by the way. For what it's worth I thought Senator Sanders looked as red as a lobster. If you don't dare make a joke about a woman out of fear that it means you are sexist, that's your problem. However, it was certainly not my intention to offend you, although something tells me you probably get offended a lot.

44. Her make up wasn't so much the problem as the contrast against that harsh yellow jacket.

It clashed with her complexion which is in the cool range of pink tones. She looks best in complementary colors of cool shades of pinks, blues, purples, and some greens. The hot colors like yellow, orange, red, brown, olive greens aren't flattering to her skin tones, but looking at her wardrobe selections, those must be the shades she (or her dressers) prefers the most.

64. Other aspects of his appearance are talked about. A lot.

It is certainly not all complimentary.

But you know, wearing a bright yellow suit jacket to a debate is likely to be commented on? Don't you think so?

I remember back in the days, in Canada, when there was "Trudeau-mania" about Pierre Trudeau. A very populist, charismatic man. The early days, before Albertan's threw tomatoes at his train when he traveled across Canada by rail. His clothes, his rose, all drew a lot of comment (scathing, ribald, the works) because they were just a tiny bit out of the ordinary. Is that "sexism"? Or is that just people talking about something that a professionally public person, a politician, takes care to make noticeable? I mean jeez, breezing into Ottawa in a flashy red sports convertible, wearing his rose, what's not to talk about?

AS an old Sailor friend of mine said it looks like foul weather gear

Just add an hat

It's very high dollar whatever it is.

46. Jury Results:

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

Can we stop this blatant misogyny?

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Feb 12, 2016, 04:41 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Some people seem to like to claim everything is misogynistic and sexist. This also is neither.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: If I need to ask for the misogyny to be pointed out, it is not blatant.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Can we please move on from this childish behavior?

I am supporting Sen. Sanders, however, I don't like how we attack each other. We are suppose to be supportive of each other not knock each other down!
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: It's a beautifully tailored jacket and I'm sure she felt confident in it. What misogyny?
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: We're talking about Wall Street, I am not seeing the misogyny in the post.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

65. Another edifying post on DU.

Do you have an opinion on what the male candidates wear? How about a similar post about Sanders' rumpled suits, Trump's designer suits, Rubio's stacked heel shoes that add an extra inch or two to his height?

Nope, there's no sexism on the Left. Suffice it to read DU regularly to disabuse one of that notion.

The barrel has been scraped so much that it now has a hole.....

66. If Bernie Sanders wore a lapel pin he's worn while fundraising with corporations he must regulate...

(And no, DSCC fundraisers don't count, thanks for trying)

Then I would have an opinion. The point of this post is that the same clothing was worn at both events. How the clothing looks or how she looks is irrelevant and immaterial, and a distraction from the post (but a convenient way to dodge the larger point, so kudos for finding a good distraction!)

I have no opinion about the specifics of her clothing; it is unimportant to me. Ideas, record, and ethics matter to me.

Have I made myself sufficiently clear to you?
