(24,411 posts)When I went to see Clinton in Des Moines, the event was scheduled to start at 5:45 p.m. By 6:00 p.m., we were all still standing outside in freezing Iowa 10 degree temperatures with the wind howling. People were pissed as hell.
Some of her people finally came and allowed the parents with babies to come inside, while the rest of us had to stand and suffer.
Then, two of her "people" start taking pictures of the line!!!
There were not a lot of people there. Probably under 200. But that line of people waiting outside, I suppose, could make it appear as if unprecedented droves of people were just waiting to get inside.
There was no reason to have stalled like that--other than to get that photo. There was plenty of room inside the State Historical Society.
Sure enough, I get home and there on Twitter, were two of her minions declaring that the event was an amazing success--with pictures of those lines.
So, there's the story of that one line/march for Hillary. We were unwilling, frozen participants though. Not sure if it counts, but I thought I'd share.

(6,960 posts)So much about Hillary Clinton and her campaign is manufactured.
If it weren't for the power and lure of big campaign contributions that the Democratic Party establishment believe they get by associating with her and Bill, the Clinton effort this time would already have collapsed.
I see it here in Colorado -- the insiders of the Democratic Party are enthralled with the giant money from millionaires, billionaires, and corporations and they are convinced that will take them to victory no matter what the message (or indeed in spite of the message).
This has led to a kind of arrogance towards regular working folks and regular Democrats -- there really is an attitude from party leaders that "we know what is best for you."
Sadly, slowly but surely this is eroding the Democratic Party ... Mark Udall was defeated two years ago because he didn't stand for anything anymore and he seemed more interested in schmoozing with the 'liberal' power elite than in condescending to mix with us common people.
If Clinton is the nominee, Colorado is lost; it will be tough this time even with Sanders, but his economic message resonates here and he will have a chance.

(154,021 posts)but over the years, and usually they accompany controlling (very much so) failed campaigns.
Advance teams, from what I have been told off the record, must make the participants, whether it is one or 10,000, feel welcomed and comfortable. If you do not, these are the kinds of stories that spread and hurt you in the end.
