(10,495 posts)Bernie should be President just for exhibiting the control not to get up and slap the crap out of Chris. Bernie needs to convince Americans that this is for real and it is necessary. Chris helped him out by asking the question, how are you going to get it done? He was condescending and tried to prevent answers by interrupting Bernie. It bit him in the ass because Bernie got to lay it out how he was going to achieve his goals! Bernie persevered through the interruptions and got his message through. I saw he had to take a few deep breaths and lower his voice due to Tweety's intentional assinine interruptions. The man's got self control!

(15,480 posts)Dashing around Europe on some rushed tour: "See 10 countries in 2 weeks!"
Hillary Clinton's Fly By Diplomacy - quantity over quality - WAY over.
Madeleine Albright visited 96 countries in 4 years; Condoleeza Rice went to 85 countries in her 4 years. But Clinton went to 112! Golly Gumdrops! That must make her the best Secretary of State ever!
Hill has counted countries where her plane stopped for an hour and she met some local officials in the airport before taking off again. She'd go on multi-country "listening tours". It has been described as "Obama got what he wanted - Hillary out of town, and Clinton got what she wanted - endless media exposure in anticipation of another run for the presidency."
She'd find an excuse of giving a speech or receiving an award to check another country off of her bucket list. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/hillary-clinton-most-traveled-secretary-of-state-in-us-history/
Three countries in 72 hours???? "Clinton will visit three countries in about 72 hours, including Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea." http://thehill.com/capital-living/in-the-know/75361-democratic-lawmaker-condemns-clintons-fly-by-diplomacy
Then there was her 7 nation, 12 day tour of Africa! Kenya, South Africa, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Liberia, and Cape Verde. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=111547358
Analysts also point to the lack of a landmark achievement that bears her name -- something on the scale of Henry Kissinger's work on detente or George Marshall's theory of containment -- or a breakthrough on a major international problem during her time on the job.
Many in Washington's foreign policy community say she leaves behind a legacy that is very good, but not extraordinary.
Michael O'Hanlon, the director of foreign-policy research at the Brookings Institution, puts Clinton one notch below history's most memorable secretaries of state.
Aaron David Miller, a U.S. foreign-policy expert at Washington's Woodrow Wilson Center, says the White House rarely gave Clinton the reins on "big-think strategy. He says special envoys appointed by the president, like the late Richard Holbrooke, who worked on Afghanistan and Pakistan, sometimes overshadowed Clinton.

(19,089 posts)Given Bernie's superior judgement in past foreign engagements, and given his competitor's demonstrated incompetence in foreign affairs, I think it's fair to say 1) Bernie will have a reasonable foreign policy that will be ultimately HELPFUL in domestic affairs, and be a positive force in the world for human justice and fairness ... And 2) Hillary is quite warlike and bellicose in her pronouncements, which is a strong indicator that she will fall into the same traps as previous administrations...

So one candidate is correct on foreign policy, and the other candidate has always been wrong on foreign policy but has more "experience," you go with the more "experienced" one?

(1,103 posts)Bernie is not weak. He's just trying to get this country's priorities in order. If we don't watch out and do something about the middle class and poor groups in this country we will have more to contend with than a political revolution. At that point we may just get our very own home grown Isis.

No nonsense.
Honest, trustworthy, good for his words. No funny business but very, very strong.
That's who he is. He will be no different in foreign policy.
He is trustworthy and has the values we need in our foreign policy.
He listens but he stays on track and gets across what he wants.
He will be our best president ever in foreign policy.
I think he would handle China, North Korea, Russia, the Middle East, especially the Middle East very well. His discussion of Iranian history and our involvement there demonstrates that he knows foreign policy very well. He knows where we have made our mistakes.
He opposed Reagan's policy in Nicaragua when he was mayor of Burlington, Vermont. He was right.
In fact, he has generally been right about foreign policy, has a better record than anyone running this year. That's for sure.

(8,168 posts)And only Rachel could see the bigger picture, Tweety's view of politics and what is possible is far too limited. BUT, as Rachel noted, the back and forth between them is the conflict we face here. Can Bernie implement his ideas or will he succumb to the forces in Washington and get done what he can similar to Obama? As Rachel said, we have a choice between revolution versus reform. Is Bernie the revolutionary of our lifetimes?

(13,776 posts)It's not as though a Republican Congress is going to be falling over itself to do anything Hillary wants them to do, either. Is she getting challenged in the same way about whether she can implement anything? I sure haven't seen it.
So why on earth would we not prefer a candidate who aims high--really high--for the greater good of 99% of the country? I think Bernie was right in saying that strong support for his proposals would turn into emails and phone calls to Congress. Nobody's going to get pumped up about a compromise-y version of a Democratic wish list.

(28,125 posts)He displayed and flexed his foreign policy knowledge really well. Impressively.
Let them say Hillary is better on foreign policy now. Notice he got a hard jab a Hillary's best friend, Kissinger. Pow...that was beautifully executed.

(8,175 posts)Yes, Chris was obnoxious, until audience questions started...then he calmed down. One thing I loved about watching this is how Bernie kept his cool, and never got mad at Chris, but remained firm in taking control of the conversation again. He showed that he can work with difficult people who don't even want to listen. I loved his interaction with the students too. He treated them like adults...like they were equals, and he did not talk down to them the way Hillary always seems to.
I do think Hillary has serious issues with self-assurance/self-confidence. It shows in the way she treats others. She kisses up to people like Kissinger, Obama, etc., but she talks down to common people (people who don't have a lot of wealth, fame, power).

(12,412 posts)Yet, I wanted him to answer Tweety directly when pressured to explain how he would get his proposals passed through Congress. Bernie's response that he is attempting to 'change' the political climate is not enough for me.
I want to hear my candidate explain directly how the 'Republican control' of legislative duty is the PROBLEM.
I want my candidate to truthfully tell his supporters that he will need a change in the Senate and House to accomplish his goals.
I want my candidate to lead a national movement to replace all the riff raff with progressive dedicated public servants who will serve the greater humanity.
My candidate of choice would be inspiring his supporters to understand how large a problem we have and encouraging them to fight at every level of government to make a change.
I think Tweety handed Bernie a soft ball that he barely took a swing at.
Bernie will have to be a bit tougher if he is to face off with Trump.
