2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBlacks in Law Enforcement of America endorses Bernie
* The need of police forces that reflect the diversity of our communities
* Increasing civilian oversight of police departments
* To federally fund and require body cameras for law enforcement officers
* Establishing a new federal model where police training programs are the focus of every local government
* Creating a police culture that allows for good officers to report the actions of bad officers without fear of retaliation and allows for a department to follow through on such reports.
We support Senator Sanders because his platform is to pursue national policies that value the people of color and the institution of responsible policing in America. We are supporting a candidate that has supported the minority community when it wasnt popular. We are supporting a man who has a proven history on the front lines in the battle of our civil liberties.

In my mind, this is quite possibly the most interesting endorsement of the primary season so far. Seriously, read their whole endorsement and then spend some time at their site. This is a positive group I wish we heard more from in the national media.

(9,086 posts)I've never heard of that group before. Are they very big?
Fawke Em
(11,366 posts)Their membership page is simply an application for membership and not an overview.
And all I can find on Google are the statements they've given in relation to news events, but it does look like they were very involved in the Eric Garner case since they're out of New York.
Maybe Erica Garner influenced their decision.

(9,865 posts)This is a really interesting endorsement.
Maybe because they see and know up close the communities that are being broken by poverty. And maybe too, the way Bernie fights for Vets and how Vet's groups have endorsed him as their best friend in Congress. Maybe these policemen also see up close the ravaged Vets who are now disabled or homeless after the Iraq War.
