Got hand it to them. When I originally heard how much Clintons made in speaking fees I thought big business interests were crazy wasting that much money on 45min speech. But these people have great foresight. This was great investment to retain power and access. Just look at Jeb Bush. His backers spend $200M and he couldn't even hit double digits in any state.
Clintons on the other hand despite overall under water favorably ratings have somehow convinced democratic party structure to pave the way for them. You got civil right icons carrying water for them and embarrassing themselves. Party leaders stacking the decks for them. All backbenchers endorsing them. Somehow convincing the voting public money corrupts only the other guy not me.
Republicans couldn't possible get away with this. It killed Romney and he actually was more ethical because he was not selling access at the expense of the public. If I were billionaires and I wanted my man/woman in power I would not waste my money with Republicans. If you find the right democrat it will be much more cost effective. You just have to thick skin because as part of their act they will denounce you in public.
