Hillary Clinton has learned nothing from her Iraq vote.
McKim
(2,412 posts)She has learned nothing. It was way more than a "mistake". She should have said a lot more about it. I would like to send her on a slow helicopter ride over the whole region so she could see with her own eyes what she has done. More than 500,000 people are dead over there and the whole region destabilized. But that doesn't stop her, she destabilized Syria and Libya too on her watch as Sect'y of State. I spent 14 years in the Peace Movement because of her "mistake". Her apology means nothing to me. Better minds like Senator Byrd and others voted the other way, as did Senator Sanders. Do not trivialize these deaths as a "mistake"! I am voting for Senator Sanders all the way! My brother law died in Vietnam for a lie so our family knows a lot more than her about "mistakes".

(1 post)These sample ballots come from the DNC of Illinois. Chairwoman of DNC is Debbie Wasserman Schultz. She declared her endorsement of Hillary since 2007. Yes you can hold Hillary Clinton responsible. The establishment is backed by corporatist money. The establishment wants someone who can keep their interests in mind, despite what Hillary "promises," wall street would simply get a slap on the wrist similar to a bug bite. Open your eyes and do your research. Please don't use soundbites as your platform to be with Her. Remember this, as Hillary Clinton takes money from federal lobbyists, federal lawyers (that were banned by Obama and overturned by Debbie), superpacs, corporate CEOs, wall street and backing of elites aka superdelegates--she is also telling her individual supporters they should give to her. This is corporate greed at its finest. Bernie Sanders runs on individual contributions. Do you really think Hillary Clinton has Your best interest in mind? Is it possible with all her flip flipping, she may have her own agenda?

It's just the slate of endorsed candidates.

(10,493 posts)When I was a PCT committeeman, we made something up as well. Granted ours never looked like this, and we listed all party candidates. If one was endorsed, we would put them in bold. I also added links to each candidates website or questionnaires. This is just typical state politics.

dflprincess
(28,075 posts)But this is a sample ballot before a primary and it says it is the "official" Democratic sample ballot. But it does not list all the candidates.
An official ballot put out by the party should be neutral and list all the candidates for each office. Otherwise it's more of a misleading ad for certain candidates.
gwheezie
(3,580 posts)I don't see anything that indicates if this was from a campaign or the dem party.
dflprincess

(47,209 posts)are very contested races that both candidates are spending on, I will get both. I guess because my name and address is on the rolls as an active voter for a long time.
But yeah, a lot of groups will just print up a bunch of recommendations - a "slate" in a sample ballot format and hand or mail them out to people. I have seen this dozens of times.
nc4bo
(17,651 posts)The most we (as in those in my little orbit) get is the sample ballot from the BOA, that's it.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)they'll be more voters showing up for the primary. But I have always seen local slates put together with bigger candidates in ads and flyers that look like this.
It is so hard to get people to get out and vote, I am not going to complain about their effort. Was probably handed out by volunteers.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)And you would take that actual ballot to the voting booth and drop it in the ballot box. (And, then, the party would pay for you to get a shave and haircut, and you'd do it again...)
nc4bo
(17,651 posts)Yellow or blue then we'd just return those back or hand to someone else on their way in. No D would be checked off except the down ticket folks; judges, etc. - those would be circled.
Nothing and I do mean nothing as elaborate as that thing in the OP.
noretreatnosurrender
(1,890 posts)I've gotten plenty of these kind of things in a General election. I've never gotten them in the Primary and I've voted every primary and election since I was eligible.
Does your state send these out in every Primary?
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)Dem. I know a lot of times they try to split off local elections or votes on propositions from the bigger elections when they want to suppress turnout, and the local Dem party usually fights that because it's a ton more work to get people out multiple times. Locally we have a lot of Dems, so I get a ton of mailings for most of the people running- sometimes from 2-3 different slates -all composed of Dems or Indies.
noretreatnosurrender
(1,890 posts)I get mailers from the individual candidates in a Primary but I've never gotten anything like this flyer shown in the thread. I've only seen things like that in the General election.

(3,709 posts)Back in the olden days, when I was a poll worker, it wasn't unusual for a voter to be given a ride to the polling place by a campaign worker; and for someone to have conveniently marked a sample ballot for the voter to take into the voting booth where he or she voted on the official ballot as indicated by the marked sample. In that way, the campaign worker was not only pleased with the voter as a person, said person was thanked and, if necessary, afterward rewarded with what was left in the bottle of Seagram's 7.
I remember, in particular, my elderly Polish landlady giggling when she said she had been doing this since the 1920s and she "...still no know why."

On Sat Mar 5, 2016, 09:12 PM an alert was sent on the following post:
Bernie Sanders OMITTED From Chicago Democratic Sample Ballot... More Shenanigans...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/12511421295
REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
This is not a ballot. This is such misleading bullshit.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sat Mar 5, 2016, 09:21 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: ALERTER: STOP WASTING JURY TIME!
The heading says "Sample Ballot" and that's exactly what it is. Jeebus, just STOP being so freaking partisan.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Wow. I can't believe someone alerted on this. It has 95 recs and is no way "disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate". WTF? The alert system is not about silencing discussion. Again, the alert system is not about silencing discussion on a discussion board!
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This alert is barn dressing.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The green band at the top of the sheet identifies it as a sample ballot, legal to carry into the voting booth with you. On the other hand, this is Chicago with a long history of election shenanigans.
Reading for comprehension is good. The sample ballot is not a problem. The poster and alerter are both hypersensitive today. Voluntarily take some time off. We'll all be better for it.
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(8,812 posts)It's despicable, but as far as I know, it's legal. And it's especially effective for voters who are not paying attention.
In California GEs, it's often used to skew votes on propositions. Democrats receive "sample ballots" with all the Democrats checked (of course) but with some horribly misleading corporatist proposition checked as well.
Well-meaning but uninformed Democrats systematically go through the list as they cast their votes, inadvertently supporting the latest evil proposition from Big Ag, King CONG*, or Big Pharma.
* CONG stands for coal, oil, nukes, and gas.

The OP is just who the ward supports in the race and I have seen them many times.
I have never seen what you are talking about and hope locally I never do

(94,520 posts)this is a ballot of Endorsed candidates. This happens all over the Country and has since Political Parties were formed. Anyone who wants a sample ballot with a full list of Candidates can get it from the State agency managing the election.
I have sent this to Shaun King at NY Daily News. Are you the original source of this pic?

(146,288 posts)All candidates will be on the actual ballot. Such ballots are sent out by all sorts of groups who endorse candidates.
It is not the official sample ballot.

(94,520 posts)Official Sample Ballots are available from your Election Board. Sample ballots with endorsed candidates have been around for decades; I was handing them out back in the 70s when I was a Ward Committeeman in the 70s.

(27,985 posts)ffs, the image in the OP is a political flyer which is mailed to people. It is endorsing a candidate or candidates in races. Anybody who thinks this is an official 'sample' ballot should probably not vote. We don't see the rest of the flyer because it's probably pretty damn clear that it is a paid advertisement.
This is such a non-story that it should be mocked mercilessly.
