"FLINT, MICHIGAN Bernie Sanders upset Hillary Clinton in the Michigan presidential primary on Tuesday, securing a larger share of voters of color than he has ever before and significantly winning young voters, who came out in record numbers.
Though the polls predicted she would easily win Michigan, Clinton secured just 65 percent of Michigans African American vote, a number thats significantly lower than her usual results including Mississippi, which also held a primary on Tuesday, and where she secured almost nine in ten black voters. The only state where Sanders won a larger share of African American voters was his home state of Vermont, which is only 1.2 percent black. Michigan, meanwhile, is more than 14 percent black.
Frederick Malone, who was wearing and selling t-shirts reading Black Men for Bernie at a press event in Flint on Monday, told ThinkProgress that the more black voters hear about Sanders policies, the more they support him.
Bernies been for the black people for a long time, he said. When asked why Clinton has been winning Southern states with large black populations, Malone faulted it on Sanders speaking skills.
Hillary, she expresses herself a lot better than Bernie, he said. Bernie, he cant communicate all of the things he has done. Hes been at this a long time. He marched with Martin Luther King.

(20,998 posts)Bernie may not have played saxaphone on Arsenio.
And Bernie most assuredly has not "visited" any where near the number of Black churches the Clinton or their surrogates have.
And Bernie doesn't try to abscond with the mantle of "first Black anything."
And Bernie may not know hardly anyone in today's Black name-dropping elite...
...but when the chips were down and the battle for Civil Rights for all was at it's most brutal...
...this tall, skinny, geeky-lookin' four-eyed kid put his ass on the line for what he believed. He risked his life to stand up for what he believed: EQUALITY NO MATTER YOUR SKIN COLOR.
Bernie Sanders is NOT in this race to be POTUS. Bernie Sanders is NOT in this race for the power. Bernie Sanders is NOT in this race because it is his turn.
Bernie Sanders IS IN THIS RACE, because just like his stand - when it was not cool, comfortable or even safe - for equal rights for all, Bernie is in this race, BECAUSE IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

(20,998 posts)Bernie Sanders risked life and limb in the American struggle for Civil Rights. That is a fact, and no amount of Clintonization will change that fact. Further pandering and falsehoods - by anyone - are either gross ignorance or willful deception.
