Bernie Sanders Draws Thousands at Rallies Across Florida

Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont spent Thursday talking to thousands of people in rallies across Florida in an effort to garner support before the state’s primary next week.

Mr. Sanders began his day in Miami and flew to Gainesville for a morning rally at the University of Florida. There, he told about 5,600 supporters that he would need their help to score another victory like the one he had in Michigan’s primary on Tuesday. He also continued to contrast his stances on trade with those of his rival, Hillary Clinton.

“We just pulled off a major upset in Michigan the other night, and on Tuesday we have five states coming up, including Florida,” Mr. Sanders said to cheers. “If you guys come out to vote, we are going to pull off another upset.”

First time I've seen empty seats in pics of his rallies.

The message is clear. His surge is done. He's toast.

First N.C. appearance in a long while. Where he's booked is a venue of maybe 2,500...with room for overflow.

finding a bigger place.
Bernie worker (one of four who are crashing at my house in advance of Tuesday's voting= one from Fla, one from Tennessee, one from PA, and one from Los Angeles) is upstairs working on that as I type. Then she is driving to Raleigh to get there way past midnight, and get ready for a meeting on the subject once there at 7 am. Those are the hours they work. I am not only impressed, I am also royally entertained and loving my time with them.

I wondered if they wouldn't need a bigger venue. I've felt Bernie could have a chance here and was worried that, after SC and the deep South states going so big for Hillary, he wouldn't want to spend resources in NC. Early voting has already started, but hopefully he could have a surge on election day. Fingers Crossed.

If I were him, I wouldn't waste my time in Florida, given both last night's debate and the fact that it's a closed primary. I'd spend my time and money in a state where I could flood the primary with independents and cross over Republicans.

But I guess he has to keep his Florida losses to a minimum. If Hillary racks up a huge win there, and just basically ties him elsewhere, it's basically over for him.

But he'll do well enough to pull in some delegates. Over 1 million early votes cast has been reported, which is probably good news. Only a couple more Confederate States to go, and Hillary is done. Bernie will win most of the remaining.

Didn't realize that.

And since Independents won't vote in many numbers for Hillary, I guess she doesn't need them.

So glad I understand that now.

In the Michigan primary, Hillary won Democrats 57-40. Bernie only won Michigan because he carried independents 70-30. In a closed primary only Democrats can vote. This isn't difficult to understand.

I've got a sneaky suspicions that their internal polling might be telling them that things are already looking good in the rust belt states and he needs to minimize his losses in Florida. I'm also an armchair quarterback.

When I first volunteered earlier, they sent me an e-mail saying the positions were all filled, so I told my boss I'd work this evening.

Then I got another call last night, but it was too late to change.

I did some of that for the Kerry campaign in 2004, and it was a good experience.
