Report: Bill Clinton May Have Encouraged Donald Trump to Run for President
What if the Clintons were playing chess
against themselves?!
BY TINA NGUYEN
Whom does the country have to blame for Donald Trumps ascendancy in American politics? The Republican Party, for cultivating conservative populism to score short-term victories against Barack Obama? The media, for covering Trumps every utterance at the expense of all other candidates? Celebrity culture, for thrusting him into the public consciousness? Capitalism, for making him rich? Tall buildings, of which Trump has many?
Wrong, says The Washington Post, which revealed the supposed truth on Wednesday: it was former president and candidate spouse Bill Clinton all along.
According to several Trump sources (and one Clinton source) who spoke to the Post, the two men spoke over the phone in late May, shortly before Trump announced his run in June. During the call, the Trump sources said, Clinton encouraged Trumps efforts to play a larger role in the Republican Party and analyzed Trumps prospects and his desire to rouse the G.O.P. base.
That conversation, said the anonymous Trump sources, certainly didnt discourage the billionaire to run: while Clinton never outright told Trump to enter the race, he reportedly told Trump that he was striking a chord with frustrated conservatives and was a rising force on the right, and his tone was supposedly encouraging.

(36,063 posts)Taking America back 20 years as Trump has suggested, would place the Clintons just where?
Yep.

(7,661 posts)in GD P and those who plead to those who support Bernie to vote for Hillary if she ends up in the GE. Then we have another thread telling people that a vote for Jill Stein is really a vote for Trump.... If Bill has destroyed the GOP with his ill advised move to get Trump to run why are so many scared? Let people vote the way they would like to without being "Nadered" because IMO this one of the reasons we end up having to vote for the lesser of two evils.

(30,481 posts)That details supporting democrats in its purpose. I don't find this discussions to be out of place in such a forum. Not sure why anyone would. My only concern about Trump is keeping him out of the WH. But that seems to be a certainty. I do think he is our best opponent. Just another reason to thank the Big Dog. In one short phone call the big dog dismantled the Republican Party and has all but ensured the next president will be a democrat.
It's a great time to be a progressive.

(7,661 posts)why the worry??? Bill Clinton has sabotaged the GOP as you stated and destroyed the party with his Trojan Horse which is Trump. IMO No need for such threads, all is fine and good and the little people will prosper once again, it's been a long time coming.

(819 posts)between Trump and Clintons. Get the nomination of the GOP so HRC looks good in contrast and comparison. There is enough baggage and dislike out there for her that you really have to run against a real doozy. And there he is.
Both Trump and Clinton are equally disliked.
The 1% wins with either of them. Not at all surprised at all the antics. It is about as real as professional wrestling and voting public is being played. They didn't expect Sanders would run and do as well as he has.

(14,459 posts)This is immediately what I thought of. Either this went further than the Clintons had calculated, or they are using the fear bludgeon to shore up their failing campaign.
In either case, they invited him to the party. They can deal with him.

(6,007 posts)They aren't REAL-ly worried, it was just a convenient meme they thought up one week to smear Bernie with. They don't really care or they'd understand the polls.
