Now that it is apparent that Hillary Clinton will be our nominee I implore you to put a stop to the "she can't win" posts. If I have to read such aberrant nonsense I can go Discussionist, The Cave, Freak Republic, and the site which shall not be mentioned.
Thank you in advance.

Kos may be a better place for you if you don't want an open discussion of the primary still under way. They plan to do as you asking.
Enough with the attempts to control the narrative, to shape public perception, in order to suit the agenda of a handful of people. This is not the media, this is a forum. The people will decide, unless you want to admit that this is not a democracy? That this country is not authentically a democratic one, much less the party. If DUers are silenced for not marching in lockstep with the establishment, you can no longer call it a democracy either. Because, who are we kidding, the appearance of democracy is not of, for or by the people at all. So, which is it? You can't have it both ways.
If you insist on faux democracy, we are all done here. The name of this place will be a misnomer and if that's the case, why bother? Step up, call it what it is.
The members should decide, nobody else. Kind of like how union membership wants one candidate when its leadership endorses another.
I hope the admins know better. I hope they choose to be on the correct side of history.

(2,145 posts)That is the problem isn't it? You think you vote to keep the evil out but that isn't change. That is really status quo with evil lurking at the door. Brecht is not saying what you're saying.
No, change will come when you finally stop supporting the status quo. Yes, things will get worse - maybe. But the democrats, the party, will never change as long as they can depend on your vote. My vote may inspire change - but only if enough of us risk the evil to force the change.

Read the history of the Weimar Republic and of life in Germany and Austria in the 1920s andi 1930s, post WWI. Cause that is where the US is headed.
And as I have said many times and repeat now: I will vote for all other Democrats on my ballot but I will not vote for Hillary Clinton.
People who back her know nothing of the relevant history and are living in la-la-land.
Hillary will involve our country in yet more endless wars and waste our precious resources on everything but saving the environment.
Hope you enjoy your future.

(57,936 posts)In fact, no state on the West Coast has voted yet.
But I am shocked that Hillary took the majority of votes in Ohio.
I do not think she can win in November against Trump.
I sincerely hope that I am wrong. She is a very, very weak candidate.
She just does not have the kind of personality that she needs to win the presidency in my opinion.
It's like singing. Just having a great voice is almost unimportant although you need that to have a singing career.
What matters is whether you can perform, whether you can focus and be yourself in front of an audience, whether you can project sincerity and feeling to others. It took me a couple of decades to learn that reality.
Hillary has never learned it and never will. She just can't be herself in frong of an audience.
Unfortunately, and I hate to admit this, Trump can. He is a horrible person, but he is fully at ease in front of an audience.
Bernie is just plain so focused on the moral path in each word he utters that he too is fully himself in front of an audience.
Democrats shooting ourselves in our feet once again. It is very sad.
We still ahve the hope of the West Coast, and I haven't heard how many delegates Bernie won tonight, but I have a very sad feeling.

(2,983 posts)You really think Skinner is going to start getting out the ban stick with the ongoing primary? Likely victory is not victory. "She can't win" is an opinion - it is an opinion I disagree with, as I believe she can. However... I also feel that Sanders still has some chance of winning this nomination (though it has now become more slim). Can we wait until the nominee is actually elected, please, before we start gloating and calling for post removals and banning because people who disagree with you?
I've seen plenty of "Sanders can't win", or "Sanders should drop out now" threads and posts. I would not vote to hide a single one - nor would I vote to hide one that said something similar about Clinton - nor have I.
Your suggestion is rather authoritarian, given the status of the ongoing primary and the fact that this is still up for grabs. Sanders may end up suffering a great defeat tonight, but we still have not yet reached the convention. Can you win with grace? Just take your victory and be pleased with it instead of immediately using it to lash out at the other side? Posts like this, I assure you, are going to strengthen the positions and passions of Sanders supporters who do not want to vote for Clinton even if she does win the nomination.
How many posters does DU want to lose? How many democrats, liberals, progressives, independents and others do you want to lose with your insistence on silencing dissent?
Your candidate, and your fellow Clinton supporters will need Sanders supporters to win in the GE. I have said over and over again that I will vote for Clinton if she wins the nomination - posts like yours though, are a big part of the reason why I will have to hold my nose if and when I do so. They also likely apply to why some people are simply going to choose to stay home - or vote third party.

(1,150 posts)Instead, you elected to make your plea to Skinner an OP. Which means that you wanted to provoke people.
As this is patently obvious, your 'plea' is exactly the sort of thing you're claiming you'd like 'put a stop to.' You are specifically claiming that one of two Democratic contenders for the party's nomination of candidate for the Presidency 'can't win.' And you're claiming that the very same viewpoint about the contender you support is 'aberrant nonsense.'
Do you not see that or do you not care?
DemocratSinceBirth

RiverNoord
(1,150 posts)YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.
I have never once claimed that 'Clinton can't win,' but I am a Bernie Sanders supporter. I don't seek to provoke people into pointless exchanges. There is no value, merit or honor in a statement that is DELIBERATELY made for the plain purpose of provoking people you don't agree with into a negative exchange.
Donald Trump provokes his supporters into acts of violence, then says 'violence? I never did that - no way.' It's absurd and I expect you agree with me that this is an example of very poor character.
You are repeatedly responding to people who predictably responded to your antagonizing statement negatively with bullshit evasions about how you didn't say what you said. I note that you have massaged your ego in one reply by using the phrase 'ad hominem attack.' This is EXACTLY the same thing as Trump's behavior. Are you contributing anything of value to this community or the world in general by your statements?
I suspect, if you've read this, your brain is now churning away for the 'oh, you poor fool, you're just not smart enough to understand as I'll demonstrate by my brilliant redirection of your arguments' answer to my question. Sadly, you won't be thinking 'well, this guy may have a point,' which would indicate a faint glimmer of hope that you are capable of healthy critical examination of the consequences of your behavior.

I am an activist in Florida politics. I helped both the Sanders and Clinton campaigns set up and run local events. The Sanders events overflowed with new people, young people, and energy. The local Clinton events failed and the mostly older activists had to commute to events 10-20 miles away.
We need new blood and the engagement of younger voters. I hooked up new volunteers with both campaigns. My new volunteers count: Bernie 150, Hillary 10. It was probably worse than that because I switched my efforts to local campaigns in January. I expect almost all the new Bernie people to go away when Hillary becomes the nominee.
