2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThere will be NO President Trump. FUCK that.
Hillary's Ohio win, plus large margins in Florida and North Carolina make it, while not mathematically impossible, nearly politically impossible for Bernie to catch and surpass her. It really hurts my heart. And really it does so because he has lead a movement that has gone father and higher than anyone expected.
I still support Bernie and him staying in the race as long as he wants, even to the convention. But, unless something earth shattering happens, Hillary will be the Democratic nominee. (And if something earth shattering happens, Bernie has the pledged delegates).
With that, fuck Donald Trump. He will not win. We will not let that happen. If Hillary is the nominee, I'll fight like hell for her and the Democrats and fight like hell against the facsist hate on the right. The difference will be stark and we will not lose this.
(I will still follow the delegate math and plot Bernie's theoretical path to victory until I hear him say that he has ended his campaign. And I will still hold out whatever grain of hope remains.)

(23,945 posts)20%?
10%?
Republicans need at least 40% to win the presidency

(32,852 posts)He will turn out ALL republicans to vote against Hillary, he will also win indies by a large margin. She will not beat him.

(11,631 posts)Hispanic groups who vote for Trump? C'mon man.
0rganism
(23,945 posts)any Hispanic support for Trump is going to be pretty fringy, i seriously doubt it breaks 20% overall.
i'm not getting that "oh shit" vibe yet -- Trump's support from the RNC establishment will be squishy, and he will have done a lot to alienate minority voters of all stripes. he even took a shot at disabled people, how do you think that's going to look in the attack ads?
nah, if the Republican bigots nominate Trumpolini, they're heading for a decade of irrelevance.

(32,852 posts)Blame those who forced a fake dem, corporate owned person who 67% of America says they DO NOT TRUST OR BELIEVE. And that isn't counting the millions of dems she has already completely alienated. But whatever. If that comforts you. Reality will be difficult. There is real suffering in this country, I'm sorry we can't give two fucks about that.

(23,945 posts)i really doubt any of Trump/Cruz/Kasich will get ALL the independents, probably not even half, but if worrying helps you get to sleep at night, go ahead and believe that they will.

but the incumbent's party often has lower turnout in the primary, and it doesn't necessarily reflect on turnout numbers for the general election.

(10,164 posts)This is a flat-out disaster, either way, for progressive values...but it could be a disaster for the entire nation if she can't beat Trump...and she can't.

But the fight is not over.
It's to early to talk about what to do in the event our candidate does not win.

There'll even be Republican women who will reject Trump.

(31,935 posts)and Trump is no doubt sitting on a wealth of correspondence and taped calls between himself and the benefactors of his charity (the Clintons) which he'll easily be able to crush her with.

(2,124 posts)His negatives are through the roof. Much higher than Clinton, much higher then anybody.
How do you win when you start out at almost 70% negatives?
Also guarantee constant craziness in Trump land from now till November.

(6,238 posts)a lot of people won't and Trump will destroy Hillary. I better not hear any complaints from Camp Weathervane when Trump is sworn in because they brought this on themselves by supporting such a weak candidate. I firmly believe that a vote for Hillary in the primaries is a vote for Trump in the GE.

(36,392 posts)is, for almost all Americans, negligible. Healthcare costs will continue to rise, insurance and drug companies will continue to rape us, Wall street will continue to rule the country, the death penalty will remain the law of the land, the prison industrial complex will continue to grow, fracking will go on, the minimum wage will stay at poverty level, TPP will depress wages and take decent jobs overseas, college will become even less affordable, our ridiculous (and murderous) intervention all through the middle east and latin america will grow, and it's very likely that Hillary will cut Social Security benefits.
She is the most revolting D candidate during my lifetime which is mercifully almost over, and her supporters are nearly as repulsive as republicans.
