2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSure Bernie has moved Hillary left in her positions...
But if you don't think she's going to snap right back to her original positions as soon as she doesn't depend on landing true liberals to score primary delegates....you're naive. As soon as Bernie is gone she'll go right back to being a DINO. Thems the facts.

And, if president, happily a lot more conservative than Obama.
Anyone who says different is a fool or a liar.

whatever she thinks she needs to say to fit the situation. That's why she's so closely guarding the content of those speeches. Doesn't want her adoring fans to know the love poems she whispers to corrupt banksters behind closed doors.

Doesn't make you less right.

(36,063 posts)and make sure that the shoestrings knotted so she can't undo them
Then we've got to keep her and her advisers away from edged-tools so she can't cut herself free.
But I don't think any of that's really necessary, because she's really moved nothing but her rhetoric.

(68,868 posts)The GLBT movement turned up the heat on Obama after he won election, and they achieved significant victories because of this (and he also improved his legacy greatly by responding to that pressure).
You should never think she's a given to do the right thing, or the wrong thing.

people who don't compromise don't get anything done. so, no matter how pure, whoever is president needs to negotiate and compromise to get things done. so when they're trying to get things done, that's when issues advocates need to be most on their game

(11,076 posts)Better to start with one who has more of the same value set. Unless of course time is no issue or one is a lobbyist.

(68,868 posts)That's the major reason to vote Democratic always, in my opinion.
Democrats are sensitive to pressure from labor and liberal activitsts.
Republicans are sensitive to Heritage Action and the Chamber of Commerce and the NRA.

(16,095 posts)I am related to a startling and scary number of Republicans (and people who think that party is "too liberal" and I can not think of a single one of them who doesn't hate Clinton (any of the Clintons) with borderline insanity.
I'm talking foaming-at-the-mouth, skeeter style derangement.
If she were running against a pedophile serial killer, they would vote for her opponent.
This is not even about Clinton, it is about unreasoning hatred. She will not get many (if any) crossover votes, no matter how far she tacks to the Right.

(68,868 posts)There's even talk about whether the GOP would be better off throwing the election than (a) letting Trump be their nominee or (b) letting him take over the party permanently if he were to somehow win the White House.

They see Trump as a giant middle finger to unions, educated people, and "libruls".
The religious whack-job faction loves Cruz because he will "get rid of" non-Christians and "the gays" and turn our country into a "Christian Nation"...apparently, by doing all the things Jesus was not for.
Have I mentioned that I tend to avoid my family and my in-laws?
