2016 Postmortem

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. The 2016 Democratic primary effectively ended Tuesday night, with Hillary Clinton as the all-but-certain winner but Bernie Sanders barely acknowledging it.
For Clinton, a narrow win in Illinois and double-digit victories across the battleground states of Florida, North Carolina and Ohio provided deliverance from a humbling loss in Michigan a week earlier and finally gave her the space to begin her pivot to Donald Trump and the general election. That left the Vermont senator to deliver his standard 60-minute stemwinder in Phoenix without mentioning a single defeat.

I have to say, I thought he was a poor loser not to congratulate her last night.

(10,565 posts)people to come back and continue posting here. Such a wonderful change!
(And the one who racked up seven hides in ONE day is back again too - and after having other vacations for similar, if not quite as concentrated and dramatic, anger outbursts. Double YAY!!)

(15,512 posts)Short of catastrophe there's no realistic chance of Bernie catching up, even if by some miracle he won majorities in NY and CA. And the supers aren't going anywhere.

(53,031 posts)but then when I found out he didn't even congratulate her, I thought that was pretty bad. She congratulated him.
There are just certain things people are expected to say, even if they don't mean them. Would it have killed him to acknowledge her wins?
Rubio had a very gracious speech. He had Trump protesters shouting him down in the middle of it. I felt bad for him. What jerks. Their candidate had just won. Let the man give his concession speech. He was leaving the race. Unreal.
JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)a speech then either.
It's just not what he does.
Did Hillary make speeches when Bernie won Vermont and Maine?
I don't think Bernie made speeches after all the Southern victories of Hillary.
Bernie's best states are yet to come.
No state facing the Pacific ocean has yet voted.
Wait and see. The primary is not over.
BainsBane
(53,031 posts)She congratulated him. That is simply customary.
Whatever. I'm perfectly content with the state of the race. I no longer feel I have to bust my ass making phone calls and donate more money than I would like.

(45,064 posts)PHOENIX U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Tuesday issued the following statement:
I congratulate Secretary Clinton on her victories on Tuesday. I also want to thank the millions of voters across the nation who supported our campaign and elected delegates who will take us all the way to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
With more than half the delegates yet to be chosen and a calendar that favors us in the weeks and months to come, we remain confident that our campaign is on a path to win the nomination.

(68,868 posts)And the states that remain are not all that friendly to Sanders either. The big states are closed primaries with expensive media markets and often large African-American and Latino communities.

(29,798 posts)MaggieD isn't after a congrats on that nights primaries, she's apparently angry Bernie didn't concede the entire race.
OP
Haven't heard a word from Bernie
No concession, no mention of the elections last night at all. And I hear that he did not send out the typical post primary email asking for donations.
Have I missed it? Or might he be "considering his options", as they say?
Her post #13
And no awareness that he's not going to win. Thanks for the response though.

Yes, you are.
I'm happy for you, for that, MaggieD.
