2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCNN is editing Bill Clinton's comments about the Obama legacy.
This is what BC said:
But if you believe we can all rise together, if you believe weve finally come to the point where we can put the awful legacy of the last eight years behind us and the seven years before when we were practicing trickle-down economics and no regulation in Washington, which is what caused the crash , then you should vote for her, Clinton finished.
This is what is being reported:
"Seattle (CNN) Bill Clinton, while campaigning for his wife in Spokane, Washington, on Monday, seemingly knocked President Barack Obama's legacy in a riff that his aides said was unintended.
"If you believe we can rise together, if you believe we've finally come to the point where we can put the awful legacy of the last eight years behind us and the seven years before that where we were practicing trickle-down economics, then you should vote for her," the former president said about his wife.

Notice they are eliminating the part about deregulation - deregulation that Bill Clinton supported and signed into law - causing the crash?
Hmmmm.
Edited to add clip;

(1,901 posts)interesting edit. When CNN picks up a viral video and doesn't do a check to see where it's coming from, I expect them to correct their mistakes, and I'm actually smart enough to check to see where any link posted on DU these days is actually coming from.
You might want to do your homework, the MSM has and they corrected the nonsense, you seem to prefer the Rovian version, posted on youtube, and not linked to CNN.
Please stop with this nonsense, you're being ratfcked.
AtomicKitten
(46,585 posts)It is a clip of Bill Clinton's speech, unedited, with the words coming out of his mouth.
You have no clue what you are talking about but losing your shit over nonetheless and embarrassing yourself.
synergie
(1,901 posts)Actually, it's because I'm well aware of what I'm talking about that I'm able to calmly call out all the hysterical viral nonsense that's being posted here. I'm not the one embarrassing myself, but please, proceed with pushing the RW smears, and telling yourself that the entire MSM is against you and plotting your downfall. THAT's not losing one's shit at all, and if that doesn't embarrass, you well ... you're very amusing, in both your projection and your utter lack of self awareness.
The ignorance and hysteria is amusing, but kind of sad as well. I hope you will all be okay, when all that fiction you read and pasted and clipped for each other proves to be a bunch of poppycock.
We'll just be over here, enjoying the show and wondering just how far you'll take it.
I mean did you even know that the CNN link has the video that your friend cut down even further? Yikes.

(46,585 posts)I'll type it slower. C - N - N.
synergie
(1,901 posts)was the source, and somehow your link has been edited.
How slowly must I type for you to figure out that you don't seem to be following what's going on here, and why the OP is pretty much dishonest?
I'm sorry you're having such a hard time keeping your stories straight and figuring out what's going on. Try reading for comprehension and not typing for poorly played snark, you might be less prone to embarrassing yourself if you had the slightest clue what's being said and what little you understand.
Or you can dig your heels in and try once more to be unpleasant, it's amusing to watch you keep failing and flailing and not quite realizing how you keep failing here.
AtomicKitten
(46,585 posts)Oh, that's right. You don't have one.
You can't argue the point being made - that CNN edited a quote - so you throw pointless garbage out as subterfuge.
Nice try.
synergie
(1,901 posts)which I stated wasn't exactly honest, since creative editing is how this viral idiocy has spread. Oh right, you can't figure out the point, so you just type silly snarky things that don't reflect very well on your claims that you have any understanding of what's going on here.
You just admitted that your video was created by your buddy, not from CNN, you can't prove provenance or what's been cut and pasted, so once again, manipulated video, that doesn't match the vile smears you're trying to promote.
My point was that CNN edited the quote after recognizing that the original video was edited to leave certain things out, apparently you hare having trouble following, so instead of trying to figure out what's being said, you went right to abusive ad hominems, snark and pointless idiocy.
Yours was a pretty sad try. Still pretty amusing, it's hilarious how you just don't seem to get how you keep undermining yourself and still don't seem to have understood what was being said, I guess you're super vested in your paranoid garbage about how you're persecuted! I mean, they're EDITING their transcripts based on the facts going around about the edited video that fooled so many BSers!
Please proceed, you seem to just be winding up with the name calling, the foulness and the snark, the fact that you still don't get how or why it's just not working for you is hilarious.
Gee, now whatever are you going to do, you still don't know what's going on and you're just so angry!!!
AtomicKitten
(46,585 posts)You are railing against the labeling of the video, not the content and certainly not the point of the OP.
FACT: Bill Clinton said what he said and CNN edited the quote eliminating the part about deregulation being the cause of the crash.
?
synergie
(1,901 posts)youtube being passed around by BSers, which alleges that Bill said something, that he clearly did not, trying to imply that he was somehow disrespecting Obama.
The MSM is correcting the propaganda, since if you watch the actual video, it's not that hard to figure out that he wasn't doing what he was accused of. Per the usual.

(22,165 posts)..... and that America Rising, Briebart, the Blaze, the Weekly Standard, the Daily Caller .....one very rightwing nut job) published this story and the video clip of questionable context and it was solely picked up the the most rightwing sites.... conservative (but mainstream) outlets did not run with this ....? Does it give you pause about context ans authenticity?
The MSM has significant problems, but I will not turn to the likes of America Rising, Briebart, the Blaze, the Weekly Standard, the Daily Caller ..... for accuracy and truth in reporting.
AtomicKitten

(22,165 posts)I never put faith in anything that comes solely from extreme rightwing sources. It gives me great pause that conservative sources (vs extreme right wing) did not pick up on this.
I don't care if it fits my agenda or not .... I would really like to see a verified video with context and authentication (no edits and attribution) .... i find it very alarming that DU has begun putting faith in these sources.
I am stating that without context and authentication the few seconds of video has no value.

CNN's reporting of what Bill Clinton said, however, eliminated this phrase: "... and no regulation in Washington, which is what caused the crash ..." , again just as I outlined in my OP.

It doesn't strike you odd that these sources are being lauded as the accurate and true sources of reporting?
I don't give a sh*t about Bill Clinton and did not vote for Hillary .... but always jump into threads where the sources of the far right are given much more credence that other mainstream sources.
in this case the OP asserts that the MSM is editing / whitewashing tc and that the non-mainstream right wing sources are the accurate ones.
there was a time on DU where America Rising, Briebart, the Blaze, the Weekly Standard, the Daily Caller .... were viewed as jokes
AtomicKitten
(46,585 posts)Anybody that can read can see that.
CNN is the source. Got it? The source and the problem; they edited a quote.
There is nothing in my OP nor in my links that is anywhere in the ballpark of a rightwing source, your misguided kneejerk reaction notwithstanding.

etherealtruth
(22,165 posts)Its making me crazy .... I don't even care about the particular stories. Its just the sudden trusting of the Blaze, the Daily Caller ... etc.
It has just become surreal to see the right wing version being lauded ... the MSM has major issues, but I would never put my faith in the far right sources.
The links to the local story (and their video) are where I would put my money as most accurate.

(5,252 posts)An inarticulate, run on sentence that tied the awful legacy of trickle down to the past 15 years. Hillary's aide is explaing that the legacy of the last 8 years is obstruction and the legacy of the 7 years prior is unregulated trickle down. Bill's off his game. I've been thinking for a while that he's more of a liability now than in 2008. He's lost a lot of credibility and charisma.
etherealtruth
(22,165 posts)...but, without doubt Bill is not nearly as facile (or glib) as he once was. I agree that he is probably a liability on the stump ... and at very best a net neutral.
It is legitimate to point fingers back to the Clinton administration's policies as part and parcel of the decline

CNN attributes their clip (at your link) to kxly
Its pretty clear that this is simply the same speech Bill Clinton has been giving over and over for Hillary Clinton ... without the rightwingers running with their interpretation .... no one would have noticed this speech and one does not come away with the rightwing "spin" on this ..... i also did NOT come away believing Bill Clinton that Hillary will "fix" the gridlock in Washington.
AtomicKitten
(46,585 posts)Now that we've dispensed with questioning the authenticity of the quote, my point is that in subsequent reporting CNN did some editing and eliminated the phrase about deregulation causing the crash.
I'm going back to bed.
etherealtruth
(22,165 posts)if you watched it all ... its not what its purported to be at all ... in context.
it was not a significant speech ... it really was just blah, blah Hillary will break through the gridlock blah, blah .... without the rightwing reporting and selective use of clips
I realize your OP stated that the MSM is bad (and they frequently are) .... but you are honestly backing the far rightwing reporting over this....?
Yes the reporting by the MSM is quite different on this than the Blaze, Breitbart ... I get it you believe that the Blaze, Dalily Caller , Breitbary ... etc are more accurate on this than the MSM

Its not editing its context in this case. I once said that I was musing abut raiding the republican primary and voting for Trump just to really eff with the repuke establishment (I couldn't vote for a racist Nazi like idiot even to mess with them).
I could be quoted stating that I was thinking about voting for Trump ... the quotes would be accurate ... but taken out of context it would give the opposite impression of the entirety of what I really said.
watching the entire video ... what I come away with is that Clinton is claiming that Hillary C can work with the obstruction and get past it ... in my mind that is the story and there are plenty of reputable sources that can analyzed that
AtomicKitten
(46,585 posts)Context has nothing to do with this. It was the purposeful elimination of a direct quote.

(5,252 posts)Can't wait to hear Hillary's outrage. Remember the huff she made during a debate about Bernie blurring Bill Press's book "Buyer's Remorse"?
"Hillary Clinton accused Bernie Sanders of writing a foreword for a book that basically argues voters should have buyers remorse when it comes to President Obamas leadership and legacy.

(10,650 posts)Their is nothing out of context in Clinton's words. They are exactly what he said. The OP was pointing out that CNN edited a phrase out of exactly what Clinton said. ALL TRUE.
AtomicKitten
(46,585 posts)I also posted the one directly from CNN's website.
CNN edited the quote eliminating the part where he said deregulation was the cause of the crash.
Babel_17
(5,400 posts)I looked at the longer CNN video, and it seems the clip jibes with that. Editing, in the context I think some people are referring to, would mean splicing together clips, while leaving the pieces in between out. The clip you posted doesn't do that, correct?

(67,782 posts)...you falsely claim that CNN is "editing" his comments? That's a laugher.
What he was referring to, if interpreted objectively, is that the "legacy" is that of the entire country over the last eight years and the seven years before that, most of which was dominated by republican majorities in Congress.
Did he say "Obama's legacy"? No.
*an excerpt that apparently doesn't even have an audio track!
Babel_17
(5,400 posts)The words of President Clinton in the article were edited to leave out "and no regulation in Washington, which is what caused the crash". Those words were in the middle of a paragraph, not at the end or the beginning. To leave them out is to edit them out.
When quoting snips it's customary to use ellipses. CNN chose not to do that, or forgot to do that. But normally ellipses aren't used to leave out such a short section as "and no regulation in Washington, which is what caused the crash".

AtomicKitten
(46,585 posts)Just like you mentioned before, CNN, their clip, their transcript.
In their own clip of the long speech published on their website here ---> http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/21/politics/bill-clinton-hillary-obama-legacy/index.html the clip shows Bill Clinton saying this:
But if you believe we can all rise together, if you believe weve finally come to the point where we can put the awful legacy of the last eight years behind us and the seven years before when we were practicing trickle-down economics and no regulation in Washington, which is what caused the crash, then you should vote for her."
Yet if you drop down in the above-posted article, their transcription of that part of the speech which they have posted on their own website said this:
"If you believe we can rise together, if you believe we've finally come to the point where we can put the awful legacy of the last eight years behind us and the seven years before that where we were practicing trickle-down economics, then you should vote for her," the former president said about his wife.
You will note they purposely omitted the phrase "... and no regulation in Washington, which is what caused the crash, ..." regarding deregulation - which Bill Clinton pushed for during his term and signed into law - from their reporting of the speech.
Babel_17
(5,400 posts)Or are you block quoting from what you wrote previously?
