(1,301 posts)In our county in NC yesterday 800 total voted
We have 16,804 Democrats registered
We have 17,774 republicans registered
We have 9,776 Independents registered....
The early turnout was larger than it was in the first election.

(6,139 posts)Also keep in mind that NC has same day registration during early voting. Registration for voting on Election Day ended last Friday. Need to track increases in registration during early voting. People who would not show up on LV or RV polling!

Needs to remind women, blacks, and other traditional Dem groups why they should vote Dem again, why they had disliked Romney and the Repubs after the convention.

(2,730 posts)That is the devil in the details. Watch the daily registration numbers for North Carolina. African American registration is well above 2008. It is over 100,000 now more than 2008. Hispanic registration is 75 percent higher than 2008. Most of that is usually Democratic votes. Then you look at these Counties: Mecklenberg,Guilforth, Forsyth, Wake, Cumberland and Durham which are all heavily Democratic. The registration in all those counties are above 2008. Right now, the Dems have a 800,000 vote total over Republicans and it is increasing by the day. It will be interesting to see where that deficit ends. I will say anywhere from 900,000 to 930,000. if it does, the Republicans are toast in North Carolina. That is too much of a deficit to overcome.

(26,217 posts)By, I'll say, 1-3%. Youth vote for Dems is concentrated in very Blue counties (Buncombe, Watauga, Durham, Orange, Mecklenburg, Wake) and in pretty Blue counties, like Guilford. Those all are high population areas, too. Buncombe and Watauga aren't huge metro areas, but they are the main population areas for their part of the state (Asheville and Boone). And, they are university areas and WILL GOTV.
I voted yesterday, in a red area, and the polls were DEAD. Blue areas had huge lines. 61% of the NC vote in was early voting, and I bet this year it will be closer to 70-75%.

(52,187 posts)I live in the largest county in the state (Wake) and the way our early voting works is that only some places are open this week with the rest opening next week. Of the 8 places open this week 5 are in deeply democratic raleigh, two are in Cary and one in north Raleigh. The three outside of Raleigh are in swing areas. Thus, at least in this county, the early voters are quite likely to be Democrats and decently likely to be black (3 of the places are in black areas, one at a university). Next week the GOP areas of Wake County will open up.

(2,825 posts)I think that might still be good for the Democrats. Many of the students out there are aware that Republicans are holding up, and in some cases, canceling pell grants, and many are in need of them. It's also a very convenient place for them to vote.
I'll be talking to someone who is bringing her entire family to vote at that site. I'll ask her if she can get a feel for things. Her granddaughter is enrolled in the nursing program there.

(879 posts)although he should have pulled out of Ann before Tagg was conceived.
He moved some staff to other states because he is losing this election. Iowa, Ohio and Wisconsin look bad. If those states go, he loses. So he had to make a desperation move, and he pulled some people out of the state where he could most afford it, NC.
Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
