Just in time for three west coast caucuses:

“Bernie Sanders is the best candidate for America’s working families,” said ILWU International President Robert McEllrath. “Bernie is best on the issues that matter most to American workers: better trade agreements, support for unions, fair wages, tuition for students and public colleges, Medicare for all, fighting a corrupt campaign finance system and confronting the power of Wall Street that’s making life harder for most Americans.”

Whenever we are asked for an endorsement from anyone running for office we start with the boilerplate questions to establish some basic truth about a candidate. If we're dealing with an incumbent, we research their voting record to verify their statements. The single most important question for a labor union is "do you support collective bargaining?" It is the most critical piece of the puzzle in terms of protecting our flanks and improving our benefits and conditions. Union officers and delegates have a responsibility to get the right answer to that question through statement or deed.
