2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie Sanders is the Presidential candidate that I have always wished that we could have.
I stumbled upon an old movie from 1993, "Dave" , which told the story of a person with a employment agency who through a unique set of circumstances had become the acting President...(no spoilers beyond that ).
I liked this movie a lot because it expressed someone as President who only concern was for the people of the country.
Clinton, who had been President for such a short time, had brought some hope, but from the first moments of his campaign, scandal already plagued him. This movie represented more of an ideal.
Although I have supported Bernie wholeheartedly from the start, I really had no idea how well he would do.
Now that I have watched him stand up against the full array of establishment forces for these many months, I have to say that I have never been prouder of a public servant. What he has already accomplished is absolutely amazing.
His courage and strength are a wonder to behold. I don't know anyone who could keep up a schedule like his at any age.
In my opinion, the best is yet to come.

(275 posts)He was on Brunch with Bernie on the Thom Hartmann show for over 10 years, and he'd take calls from regular people. I heard him for 5-6 years and was impressed then. I'm so grateful to him for being a smart, caring public servant and now running for President. He's really inspired lots of people. Thanks Bernie!

(6,133 posts)The old time public servants actually worked for the people. Of course there was corruption, but now corruption is written into law.
It is a corrupt system in which our government works, but Bernie has worked the same way regardless of the changes.

(9,314 posts)I too am amazed at the energy he exudes and the schedule he keeps. I don't know how he does it, but I do know he does it for us.
I hope he is our next President.

(22,974 posts)Many of the same conditions that led to the Great Depression are happening now, including the concentration of wealth with a small number of citizens and a government controlled by big business. Sanders is the only candidate speaking about the core problems that endanger the welfare of this country. He is the only one trying to do something about those problems before we have an economic and social meltdown.

(1,748 posts)And IMO the third way dems haven't so much tried to turn this party into the somewhat kinder & gentler corporate party, they have already succeeded in doing this.
The fact that so many in the dem electorate are willing to accept being another corporate war hawk party as long as there's at least a little lip service about progressive values and an attempt at addressing civil rights issues says they have already succeeded in this effort.
We have a crumbling infrastructure, a disappearing middle-class, and we are either shipping jobs offshore or importing workers to displace our own faster than ever. We need another new deal.
