Related: About this forumRole of tech who set up Clinton's server unknown to bosses at State
Soon after Hillary Clinton's arrival at the State Department in 2009, officials in the information technology office were baffled when told that a young technician would join them as a political appointee, newly disclosed emails show.
The technician, Bryan Pagliano, was running the off-grid email server that Clinton had him set up in her New York home for her work as secretary of state. But even as years passed, Pagliano's supervisors never learned of his most sensitive task, according to the department and one of his former colleagues.
Pagliano's immediate supervisors did not know the private server even existed until it was revealed in news reports last year, the colleague said, requesting anonymity because of a department ban on unauthorized interviews.
Clinton's decision to side-step the official state.gov email system has since shrouded her campaign for the U.S. presidency this year in controversy and legal uncertainty. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is conducting one of several inquiries into the arrangement, which saw classified information passing through her unsecured clintonemail.com account.

(1,464 posts)Can say with a straight face that this is nothing.
Hillary embedded a political appointee in the IT department who drew a government salary for maintaining a personal server. His own bosses didn't know what he was doing and he was completely unqualified for an IT job. The guy is an ex-engineer with no background in IT outside of setting up Hillary's server in 2008. He didn't even report his Clinton income to the State Dept.
And you see the State Dept has shifted from covering up for Hillary to covering their own asses.

(11,197 posts)she probably should have gotten someone a bit more skilled since the FBI was apparently successful in un-wiping her wiped server.

(24,853 posts)When foreign governments and other organizations use literally hundreds of people in their attempts to hack computers, can ONE PERSON manage enough protection to keep a server secure?
The Clinton camp maintains the server was never hacked. Do they also claim ONE person is capable of keeping say, the ChiComs or the Russians from beating them when the other side employs TEAMS of hackers?

(17,644 posts)Blumenthal was Hillary's Smear Artist against Obama in 2008 and subsequently barred from Obama's State Department. The significance was Hillary routinely defied Obama's policies and active subverted his policy behind his back during her tenure in the State Dept.

(3,040 posts)Hillary is above the law and will just spin this as some sort of RW smear campaign. And, please spare me her counterparts in the Bush administration did the same thing, that is not an excuse -- it just proves that our government is corrupt and has no problem skirting the spirit of the law.

(141 posts)all along what she was doing was illegal that is why she kept it from the President and officials in the information technology office. If she truly believed what she was doing was legit then why hide it from those in charge?
