Just got back from an Easter get together with my RW family.

We didn't talk too much politics because it can ruin an otherwise pleasant visit. What we did talk about something that we all agreed on: They all "Can't stand Debbie Wasserman Schultz" and they also said they thought that she and the Democrats had rigged their primaries to try to make it so Hillary would win.

My Fox News watching mom said with sincerity "why are the Democrats holding primaries at all if they are going to ignore the will of the voters anyway"

I got a dose of the "free stuff" meme about Bernie, but they at least respect him. Not big fans of Hillary though.

The president announced his support in a statement released through the lawmaker's campaign on Monday morning that applauds Wasserman Schultz’s progressive chops — an implicit pushback at criticism from the man challenging her in the primary from the left.

“Debbie has been a strong, progressive leader in Congress and a hardworking, committed Chair of our national Party since I proudly nominated her to the role in 2011,” Obama said.

“She always stands up and fights for what is right for her district while passionately supporting middle class families.”

Many right wingers are very bigoted and racist.

That's why Trump is leading the GOP field.

Look how quickly the southern states were labeled as ignorant, suffering from a slavery mentality, suffering stockholm syndrome and worse, when they didn't go along with the suburban white elites in New England, who felt they knew what was better for the southerners than they knew themselves.

People are quick to hate people that don't agree with them. And that psychological fact transcends skin color and it transcends political party.

with any brain left, after what we've all been through in the last couple of decades. The pre-selection of a front runner and rigging of this primary is not hard to see. Who do they think they're fooling? Problem is--people often see it but think this is admirable. The supporters of someone who "knows how to play the game" admire this strategy.

Thanks for your post from the world outside DU.

they obviously haven't listened to or read how Bernie is going to pay for it. Low-information voters give themselves away when it comes to "schooling" Bernie's supporters about Bernie.

that is more than offset by what we now pay to insurance companies. My sister's response was a sarcastic "yeah, right" and I had to leave it there before it got heated.

Overall I did find it interesting and frankly surprising that they seem to think that Bernie may be a socialist Robin Hood, but is at least an ok guy and that he is getting screwed by the Democratic party. They do not like Hillary and will vote for whoever is running against her. I didn't get that same impression if Bernie is the candidate.

I had to be careful, I didn't want to have a family brawl during a holiday. I will see them again in a few weeks and can probe that question.

& we only briefly talked about it -- just enough to know where everyone stood -- because everyone agrees that we'd like a stress-free, peaceful afternoon together. We play board games like Balderdash, Taboo, etc., to keep it fun.

You did good, corkhead -- thanks for sharing.

They voted for Bernie! They called him a Socialist, but they voted for him anyway, lol.

They never even mentioned the rest of the Republican candidates.

Back when Hillary was The Inevitable One and lots of people were totally psyched about the First Woman President. Pay no attention to what she's actually accomplished, ladies and gentlemen, just pay attention to her gender.

It's my take that a lot of people out there are genuinely conservative, and they overlap with a very large group of religious people who honestly believe that women have absolutely no place in public life. I believe that if Hillary is the nominee, very many of them, some of whom may not normally vote, will come out to vote against her. They won't really care who the Republican nominee is, won't weigh whether that person would really be a good or sensible choice as President, they'll only know that a woman has absolutely no place in the White House and will vote against her.

Sadly, this will be true for a very long time, no matter who the woman running for President might be. Unless, of course, she's an evangelical Christian running as a Republican, and then all the concerns I noted above will simply not exist for them.

I'm a 67 year old woman. I would love to see a woman as President in my lifetime. But Hillary Clinton is not that woman.

Seems the cause celebre in the Faux Newz group is "We need to bring back DDT" (pesticide).
Seriously...what kind of whack-ass corporate shill is promoting an idea as screwy as that?!?!

Also, found out that my 23 YO nephew is on his mom's (my sister's) health insurance and has no other coverage options as he works 30-hours/wk at Staples.
Without Obamacare, this kid would have ZERO coverage, and yet, somehow, Obamacare is bad?
Gawd, I hate spending holidays with ill-informed (mal-informed by Faux Newz) republiClowns.

Other stuff I heard-
Obama was responsible for high gas prices, but (the magical) free marked is responsible for current cheap(ish) gas prices.
Oliver North is a hero.
