Thom Hartmann just played a clip of Cokie Roberts on NPR this morning

Cokie proclaimed Bernie needs to win 73% of the remaining delegates to win the Democratic nomination on the first ballot. Thom said he heard the same thing on CNN this weekend. He is wondering if they are both working off the same Clinton campaign (false) talking points, or if Cokie just heard the comment and went on the radio and repeated it without fact checking.

Bernie actually needs 57% of the delegates in the remaining primaries to have more regular pledged delegates than Hillary going into the convention.

She and her mom came through the airport, and I was talking to her mom about the "old days" and some of the Great Society programs she and her husband supported, etc. Cokie seemed kind of annoyed I was not paying more attention to her, and kept trying to butt in while I was talking to her mom. I thought it was kind of funny.

... it was Cokie Roberts who initiated my growing distrust of National rePublican Radio.

I can no longer stomach its benign seeming propaganda.

Without discussing the particular figures, but just in concept, as I understand it:

Bernie needs a certain percentage of remaining delegates to be assured of winning the Dem nomination on the first ballot.

He needs a lower percentage than that to merely exceed Hillary's number, which is not *necessarily* enough to win on a first ballot, depending on what the super delegates do.

Hartmann amazes me. After railing against the "gig economy" for years, he has taken money from Uber to advertise for drivers in his own voice on his show.

And today I heard him say -- in the editorial portion of his show - that Uber and taskrabbit are not the problem.

Between that and the gold hucksterism (in no way tied to his constant predictions of stock market collapse that never come true I'm sure) I find him less than credible.

Never mind the bogus nutritional supplement peddling.

The 57% number is to have one more regular delegate than Hillary after all the primaries, 2026 to 2025. I think the 57% is rounded up a bit.

The 73% number is for Bernie to get to the 2300+ number to win the nomination outright without picking up any superdelegates, which would mean he had a big lead over Hillary in regular delegates, in the neighborhood of 600 delegates.
