2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIf the FBI recomends charges and the DOJ does not prosecute
There are some rumblings out there that this is what is going to happen. If this is what happens, it would immediately do damage to Hillary. If she goes on to win the presidency, it would do damage to president Obama's legacy, but most importantly it will do great damage to the Democratic Party, at a time when the national demographics strongly favor them in a general election. This would eventually hurt the party as much as Watergate hurt the Republicans. If Hillary did manage to win the election, it is not likely she would win with a big enough wave to take the house, even against Trump. That means that the house would have investigations and everything would come out. It would eventually get to The Clinton Foundation where even if there is no illegalities, the conflict of interests stink to high heavens.

(3,660 posts)There is enough information released in those emails to feed the congressional investigations and impeachment trolls. Good luck ever getting anything done.

(3,190 posts)An intervention. Ignoring and posh-poohing won't make it go away. As a party, we're going to have to deal with it at some point.

(99,710 posts)The right wing is ginning it up so it when the DOJ refuses to prosecute it will look like they bowed to political pressure and not because there wasn't a colorable claim.

Having the temerity to suggest that it's not crystal clear that Hillary Clinton violated the Espionage Act sure brings out the trolls...
My mind is drawn to "useful idiots."

(68,868 posts)are so quick to accuse Obama of official corruption and compare his hypothetical actions to Watergate.
I sure have never heard a real-life Democrat talk that way.

(3,190 posts)Will be that the FBI will recommend indictment and the DoJ will assign a special prosecutor to effectively kick the can down the road. The recommendation will effectively end Clinton's campaign.

I, too, think something will come of this...but I certainly don't wish to put the party through yet another Hillary/Clinton Scenario. It won't turn out well, no matter who, what when or where. Calling it a Right Wing Conspiracy doesn't do anyone any good. They hate the Clintons...it's just that simple fact.
It's not a thought or a wish.
