Related: About this forumHillary Clinton: I Could Compromise on Abortion
I had to look this one up to verify it, but it turns out to be shockingly legit:
Again, I am where I have been, which is that if there's a way to structure some kind of constitutional restriction (on abortion) that take into account the life of the mother and her health, then I'm open to that. But I have yet to see the Republicans willing to actually do that, and that would be an area, where if they included health, you could see constitutional action.

(3,015 posts)Clinton I compromised on LGBT rights. Looks like Clinton II is already working on compromising on womens rights.
Wonder what next group will get a compromise? Considering recent comments to and about the AA community, and her daughters extreme concern over how dangerous ending the racist system of mass incarcerations I think it's easy to see the next group she'll compromise one.

(45,251 posts)the SCOTUS has spoken a number of times giving women certain rights.
Isn't it cool that she's willing to "compromise" away some of the reproductive rights of America's women in order to try to win an election for herself?

(45,251 posts)was needed. Still is, IMO. However, there is an issue whether they back the right women candidates and in the right circumstances. For example, they backed Martha Coakley in a primary against three men, including Representative Capuano, who is an outstanding Representative.

(57,936 posts)without compromising, cruelly compromising, the expectant mother's right to privacy?
Hillary's idea about abortion makes sense until you think about how it could work in practice.
This is repeatedly the problem with Hillary. Whether it is a question of the Iraq War or breaking up the banks or abortion or whatever, Hillary thinks in theory, not in terms of practical solutions.
Let's take the bank issue. Hillary doesn't seem to understand that the way to break up the banks is to demand as part of a legal settlement of a claim against a bank or in response to a bank's request for a bail-out that the bank divest itself, break itself up. That's how these things are done in real life. But then when has she ever lived in real life?
And with abortion. This must be the right of the woman and it cannot be limited to only certain situations because it would be horrible if the fact that a woman had an abortion was a matter of public knowledge or could because of an accusation, a legal case or some public statement that her abortion was illegal because it was for a wrong reason and not for a reason related to health, be made public knowledge. How horrible for that woman, especially as is likely to be the case, the accusation is false and unfair.
Hillary Clinton is just plain wrong on this issue. She is not thinking far enough. She is just not very farsighted in her thinking. I am sometimes amazed that she made it through law school. She just isn't all that smart. Sorry. But she isn't.
This "compromise" would be horrible for women in conservative states in which conservative politicians would hold witch hunts to try to find out why women got abortions. This is a terrible idea.
Hillary should be embarrassed for even suggesting such a "compromise." The only thing it compromises is a woman's right to privacy at an extremely difficult moment in her life.

(21,328 posts)Some measure of restriction makes sense. I would actually not vote for a candidate who was in favor of no restrictions. Neither would 75%-80% of the country. Without seeing what the restrictions are, I can't comment. If it would be codifying some of the restrictions that have always been in place, I'd be fine with it.
