John McCain had some more critical words for Colin Powell on Friday, saying the former Secretary of States involvement in the Iraq War should hurt his political appeal. Powell endorsed Obama this week for a second straight election.
Colin Powell, interestingly enough, said that Obama got us out of Iraq, McCain told the National Review. But it was Colin Powell, with his testimony before the U.N. Security Council, that got us into Iraq.
McCain lit into Powell on Thursday over his backing for Obama.
General Powell, you disappoint us and you have harmed your legacy even further by defending what is clearly the most feckless foreign policy in my lifetime, McCain said on Brian Kilmeades radio program.
He isnt the only top Romney supporter upset with Powell. John Sununu suggested on Thursday that Powell only endorsed Obama because theyre both black.

(879 posts)...it's not a race changing endorsement, but they know that Willard is in deep trouble. Any sort of thing, even at the margins, that goes against them can be fatal. Let's say Powell's endorsement moves the needle 0.25 percentage points with undecided, that might just do in Romney. He needs to throw a perfect game the rest of the way.

LEXINGTON, Va., April 11 -- Sinking in polls and struggling to reinvigorate his foundering presidential campaign, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) delivered a robust defense of the war in Iraq on Wednesday, declaring that President Bush and the conflict's supporters are on the right side of history in the struggle against terrorism and extremism.

(448 posts)I almost had respect for McCain when he went after Mourdock....only to have him walk back those comments. Now, this? Please man, you really lost credibility in 2008 but slinking behind the flip-flop wall is even lower for a man that billed himself as a maverick.

(115,899 posts)Yes, Powell fucked up. But to lay the whole Iraq debacle in his lap is just ridiculous. Powell was speaking for the Bush administration using information (later demonstrated to have been bullshit) provided by the Bush administration, spun to favor the neocons' predetermined decision to invade Iraq. And, if I remember correctly, McCain was all for it at the time.

You seem to have a very convenient memory, which is quite unfortunate.
I seem to remember when you voted down a day honoring Martin Luther King. You did that on your on, and it wasn't until you decided to run for president that you had second thoughts.
As soon as Powell realized that he was used he took responsibility. It did not take him 20 years to say it was an error in judgment, and even then he was not totally at fault. In fact none of the culprits who got us into that war took any responsibility.
Oh, by the way McCain, it was under President Obama that we got bin laden. Not you going to the gates of hell, or George bush landing on a ship declaring a false victory.
You are a failure john McCain, and your judgment is flawed

(345 posts)Hey you hypocrite, if you had been elected we'd still be in Iraq. And while I agree
Powell went along with the program that got us into Iraq, if you're gonna pretend to blame
someone for taking us there you need to point your beady little eyes in Cheney's direction.
And point a finger at every conservative's favorite collaborator, Condoleeza.
